Not far off the 2,000 mile mark now... wahoo! Revving up to 6000 or a touch over now - doesn't half go quick, dunnit!?

Anyway, thats not the point. As i accelerate up from about 5500 to 6000 something makes a rather worrying sort of clattery poppy noise. I suspect it might be the exhaust, but i'm not sure....it's a bit difficult to tell with the rest of the engine noise accelerating at those revs!

Anyone got any idea what's going on, or is it back to the dealer!?

Hopefully a Tuscan owner will be able to proffer some advice. They seem to have become experts on the nuances of Speed 6 engine noises!

Might be the exhaust knocking on the heat shield - try to centre the heat shield by loosening the four Allen bolts that hold it - two in the boot, two under the rear diffuser - and see if that fixes it.

Not sure exactly where the exhaust runs on the Tamora but both my Cerbera & Griff suffered from exhaust rattling against the chassis. Might be worth getting your dealer to get it up on the ramps for a quick check.

glorious isnt it!
best guess on the knocking would be nubbin's...the exhaust. wiggle it and the heat shield (when cold!) to see if they're secure.
ps...by 2000 miles you can use 7500 rpm no problem as long as the oil is hot

Cheers guys I'll give it a go.... although it doesn't sound like its banging against something, it's more of a poppy-crackling type noise and it's too sporadic and only above 5,500 revs when it happens... maybe the engine has a little misfire or something up at that rev range and you can hear it popping through the exhaust.

She needs to go back to the dealer anyway... the cabin heater / air con has packed up (and yes, I have checked the fuse!) and I still have my popping out of fifth gear problem (having tried to move the surround around a bit). Hopefully none of which are particularly serious problems...

do you get the noise on the over-run or under throttle?

Mine is always popping and banging on the over-run - it's what TVR's do!! It gets better the more the car is run in - now I want a sports exhaust to release the full-on noise!!

My worry - although worry is too much - is a slight dull, interemittent knocking at idle when the engine is hot - it's probably nothing, but it's going in for service tomorrow, so I'll ask them if they can suggest a cause. Maybe another year's warranty purchase might be advisable, just in case....

Are you still taking it to Colin Blower for the service, or is it going back to the dealers?

The logistics of both are a nightmare, so I've opted for a dealer service this time - they won't lend me a car, because I'm on holiday next week, and won't be able to return it. The best they'll offer is a lift to the train station - WOW!!!

No, it's under acceleration with the throttle full on! I'd expect it to pop and bang whilst slowing down of course, which it does through the whole rev range

Nubbin,

Where does your knocking on idle come from. If it's from the left hand side, near the heater box, it's probably the heater mechanism sticking. Mine does it all the time and then I get a "Heater Flap" warning.
Dealer reckons the factory said their car does it aswell and they don't know what the cause is.

Spenny - it might be the exhaust manifold gasket leaking - do the valves clatter more loudly when it happens?

The knocking I get, is a fairly quiet low resonance noise, only audible at tickover, and doesn't appear to be directly related to engine speed, because it isn't there all the time. I'm pretty sure it's nothing, but....

Not that I can hear... although the engine is rather loud at 5,500+ revs with your toe down! I'm gonna take it in I think... definately doesnt sound right
