Fractured Cam Cap

I love my cerb 4.5, but I have unfortunately got a fracture on one of my cam caps - these hold the cam shaft in nice and straight and tight. It needs replacing, but it has to be a new one as it has to be bored to the size of the cam shaft. The garage I am using are having big trouble sourcing one. Any ideas more than welcome!!

What can I do if they are not able to get one from anywhere??

Make one? Just a small lump of aluminium isn't it? Try TVRcraft.

Can it be welded, obviously depends on the crack? Or as the gent says, get one made.

Someone else did this a little while ago? I'm puzzled, how (apart from a manufacturing fault) do you mage to break a cam cap without totalling the engine?

The cam cap was fractured nearly right the way through. When they took the parts off to ajust the tappets etc. they undid the nuts around the cam cap and it fell apart. Apparently it was under pressure from the bolts and when the pressure was released the thing pinged apart like a broken ryvita.

Now I've got to get another one, but as usual TVR have run out of parts and I may have to get one made - cost - who knows?? - could be millions could be £10 - these things have a habit of being expensive just because they are part of the 'AJP8'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still I wouldn't be able to lie awake at night if I didn't have these interesting little things to think about.

Why not try local machine shops or toolmakers if they have the machinery they should be able to make one.
Take the old one for measurments

I've changed lots of these .. get TVR to send you a selection of used caps and some plastigauge .. all you need to do is find one that's already bored close enough to give you the correct tolerance .. job done

That is the ex-Henley Heritage tie in I believe. Not yet sure what the advantage of this set up is ie I dont know if they offer S6 design flaw fixes, cheaper than factory offers, quikcer turnaround etc....?
