Hi all, I hate postings which are all about values so apologies in advance but I’d really appreciate some thoughts on this.
I’m thinking of getting a Macan S, petrol, as a daily. I’ve never really looked at the used costs of them but recall reading how owners have had these in the past and lost very little but I thought that was when they first came out and assume they now depreciate like a normal Porsche.
Looking at used cars for say £55k, some of these can be nearly 24 months old but don’t seem much less than their list price. Is this correct or am I missing something? Is there a huge wait on new cars?
I know nobody knows what will happen in the future but if I were to buy a 3 year old car for £43k with 20k on the clock with a view to keeping for 4 years, replacing the warranty after 2 years so in 4 years time the car would be 7 years old and have say 60k on the clock. What do you think would a typical trade value of the car be?
Cheers,
Hamperman

I'm in the process of selling my four year old Macan, and have naturally been taking a keen interest in prices. They seem to lose around £4k to £5k per year, perhaps more with high mileage being racked up. If you buy at £43k I reckon you'd suffer depreciation over 4 years of about £18k. Now deduct the usual dealer margin when you sell it and you're looking at around £20k if selling to the trade.Hamperman

OP - I don't think you're missing anything obvious in your investigations. Sounds like I'm in a similar position to you and have been looking for a while. I've even gone so far as to use the online configurator to test used prices against new ones and came up with the same impression as you've got - Macans at present seem to be holding their value - especially those through the Porsche network.
As you say - some of the nearly 2 yr old cars are only a couple of thousand cheaper than brand new, which makes it hardly worth the price difference for speccing and ordering your own brand new, unless of course you can't wait for build and delivery!
You may want to ask the same questions to the folks on here - https://www.macanforums.co.uk - seem to be some knowledgeable ones amongst them!

Thanks, yes I’ve also been speccing up a new one and came to the same conclusions as yourself. So then I’ve started looking at slightly older ones primarily to justify the difference in price. I’ll head over to the Macan forum and see what info I can find! I’ve had 3, just sold a lovely gts.
4 years old and two months, cost £62,400 new and sold it very recently for £40,500 which I’m very happy with. We did just over 32,000 miles in it.
Also had a a very high spec S which lost similar money over the same period of time. I would allow £500 a month in deprecation plus yearly running cost, which are no more expensive than other makes.
The macan is good value day to day motoring in my opinion.

We have a Macan Turbo. 2018, navy, 11k miles, about 20k in extras on it and in the past 6 months we must have had 10 calls/emails asking if we have any appitite to sell it. So I am guessing there is a lot of demand of Macan's at the moment, hence the strong prices.
Was the contact from trade - especially OPC? That appears to be the storyline on the Macan forum, with the majority suggesting OPC's want them for ridiculously low prices to maximise their profit. A lot of sellers have had better offers from independents and even WBAC! Sounds like OPC salespeople are becoming more like the rogues of the old days!Lonely said:

Sorry just seen this. It was only Porsche dealers. One we bought the car from; Brooklands, our local one Edinburgh and then Perth where we enquired about one.
I was speaking to Edinburgh about a new Macan the other week, not a penny discount, but he offered to collect us from a hotel in Edinburgh to take us to the dealership for collection , I must have misheard him because we would have to pay for the hotel as well I found out later.Sounded good at the time..
I was after a Macan in early 2019 when used prices were really buoyant. So I spec’d a new S and took delivery in May ‘19. I paid just over £65k, 15 months later an OPC offered £48k when I was getting an oil change. I politely told him to poke his offer. They would have retailed it for £57-58.5k looking at similar at the time. I still have the car and I’m pretty sure I’d (easily) get similar or slightly more today as used prices seem really strong just now.

WBAC won’t take spec into consideration and Judy tell you what the computer spits out.
Back yard dealer will just bid you what they feel like on the day.
Quality independents and OPC who are struggling for stock will make a realistic offer based on its condition, service history and spec.

I was approached by my local OPC about selling my Macan GTS after telling them I wasn't interested in a replacement as it doesn’t get used enough to justify chopping it in. The car is Mar 2017, £67k with extras when purchased, 15500 miles and the OPC offered £42k. The offer made me think about selling the car and I have since had an offer off £44k from an independent dealer. Hope this gives you some idea of values.

I’ve managed to get a discount on all 3 gts macans we have ordered new, shocked you couldn’t get a discount.speaking with my opc last week they have now stop buying any stock as they aren’t getting enough enquiries at present due to this second lock down.
I managed to get a discount eventually at another OPC , the salesman from Edinburgh rang back to ask about my decision and I told him I’d done the deal elsewhere, he was adamant that his SM wouldn’t budge on discount.Buster73 said:

Goes to show there discounts out there if you push, sadly my OPC is over stretched at present and they are changing staff regularly, meaning the level of service isn't what it used to be sadly and it pays to shop around nowadays. Ok, I’ve stepped up my search for a used GTS around 17 or 18 plate. I’ve sold my daily car so waiting patiently for something to come along.
My only must have option are the 18 way seats and privacy glass. Are there any other options considered essential? I think some say roof but I can live without that.
