Hey guys,

Today I purchased myself a 2007 MK5 Golf GTI DSG.
The drive is very smooth gear changes are on point. The car come with a service book it has been serviced by VW. It has 12 stamps. But no receipts of any work being done. The guy said the timing belt has been changed it’s on 112k miles. Their is no paper work of the timing belt being changed but im guessing it has as it’s on 112k? I will do a DSG service on it tho.

If in doubt about when it was done, get it done again. Then at least you've got X thousand miles out Y number of years not to worry about it

Of all of the work that sellers claim to have done but don't have a receipt for, it's always one of the most important and expensive jobs you can do on a car.

Who'da thought it

If there is no invoice for the cambelt changed then get it done ASAP, DSG should have been change a couple of times too. We have seen 2 cars recently where its been written in the service book belt changed, one hadn't and it came to us with the original belt on courtesy of a recovery truck with the engine having gone bang, the other, when the customer called the garage who had supposedly changed the belt they were told they had only ever serviced it and never changed the belt.

On mine I changed belts ,tensioner , water pump and dsg oil every 40k miles , so at 112k its 8k away from its 3rd change if its been done on time before that is ...

So , you can either pray and drive it another 8k miles or do it all now and have peace of mind .

Personally , I would do a full service ( plugs , oil , filters ) water pump and all belts and tensioners and change the cam follower as well , but thats
belts and braces .

Just get in touch with the VW garage and they’ll have a record of it.

Don’t know any good ones around me so I just took it to vw. They done everything in a day so I’m happy I just picked the golf back up. Now I got a peace of mind and can drive it without worrying about anything wink
