We are expecting our 1st child this year and we've settled on the fact we'd like an SUV to do a lot of the baby/kid stuff.

We are looking at mid-sized vehicles so Tiguan, Karoq, Qashqai size and 1 or 2 years old. Budget of about £20k.

Any real world examples of what's been practical, reliable or even fun to drive? Also there seems to be so many different spec levels on the above any guidance there would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

We're in the same position, although budget is <£17k (wife asked for £15k...)

We found a decent size boot, nice interior, and good gearbox&engine combo was a Seat Ateca 1.4TSI DSG. Only downside is the non-flat loading boot. Trim level wise I'd look for the Xcellence personally.

The other option we're looking at is the 1.2 petrol 3008. It's got the biggest boot from the cars we compare, height adjustable to easily slide a pram etc, in and out. Lovely interior and materials. Depending on your budget (yours looks good) you could get a GT Line or higher trim level which comes with lots of kit.

Why SUV instead of estate car? Octavia Scout may be the best bet or just an Octavia estate

We have a 69 plate Tiguan with DSG. Does everything a car should, but can’t say it provides an exciting drive, it’s very bland. Size wise pretty much perfect for a young family, decent sized, square boot, decent space in the back, reliable, just not exciting

Thanks for the suggestions so far a lot of food for thought.

The Kuga is an interesting one - we both like them but just don't seem to love them! That said I haven't done enough research into boot space and specs so will have a further look!

The Ateca is a great shout, and the trim level really helps too.

I don't know why but an estate just doesn't appeal as much!

The Tiguan is the most appealing but is it really worth the extra cash over the rest?? Finding it hard to justify...

Isn't that just an ugly hatchback?
