The last 3 BMW’s that I’ve bought from main dealers, Iv’e been able to negotiate a second years AUC warranty into the deal.
I’ve recently been looking to change my 7 series for a newer 7 but several dealers I’ve spoken to have told me that BMW will not allow them to offer additional warranty on a used car unless it’s a vehicle sold as part of a used car promotion.
Does anyone know if this is the case?

I don't know if that's specific to the AUC Warranty, as I was offered a reduced price (about 50% of the premium on the Insured Warranty website) on an additional 2 year insured warranty when I bought my AUC 320D from a BMW dealer.

Maybe they're trying to push punters towards the slightly less favourable Insured Warranty over the AUC Warranty, and push the costs onto the dealer/insurer instead of BMW?

When I was asking about this in November I was told that the warranties are now issued and handled by BMW directly and therefore the dealer is "out of the loop", so to speak. This is why allegedly they're not able to give you a second year. Seems codswallop to me.

Didn't push it at the time as I wasn't keen on the car in discussion anyway. Got the feeling that, had I pushed, they would have tried giving me an equivalent monetary value in other "benefits" and/or sale price discount to what it would cost me to have the second year warranty.

Suppose it also depends on how desperate they're to shift the particular car (the one I looked is still on sale!).

Admittedly this going back back to Dec 2019, but when negotiating my girlfriends used 330d they told us in order to provide a 2 year warranty they would have to pull it from sale, wait 30 days then re-advertise it with 2 years, that was the BMW policy. So we walked, guy chased us out asking what can he do to close the deal today, 2 year warranty! Simple. So he said he'll ask his manager to call BMW (Sunday afternoon so doubt that phone-call took place) and within half an hour we had concluded the deal with a 2 year BMW warranty as if by magic! So I'd say it is possible, but the dealers don't like it.

I had the same on picking up my M2 last year. Had remainder manufacturer warranty, but this was just under a year. AUC warranty has just run out and literally stumping up the cash to extend this year today - £850 isn't horrendous for piece of mind. I did try to negotiate a 2 year warranty, but same line - BMW only allow you to purchase at a later date. It almost put me off as I didn't want to find that the warranty cost had gone up to £3000 by the time I purchase it - but the lure of an M2 was too strong!

There do seem to be some mixed messages from the dealers I have spoken to.
I’m slightly pi__ed off as my current 7 has sat on the drive for the last 10 months covering less than 1000 miles whilst my final year of AUC ticks away.
A years no excess comprehensive insured warranty on a 7 series is around £2000 pa for a retail customer, the cost of another years AUC to the dealer the last time I changed my car was £600...

Just this week have negotiated an extra years warranty on an X6M as part of the deal. This was with Sytner Group. Just some final niggles to finalise (servicing related) and hope to pick up the car by the weekend. The car was advertised on the bmw website, not part of a promo and didn't actually seem to be difficult to get. My position was that the sale was a proactive call based on my current car going in for a service and sales followed up, we negotiated PX and pricing and an extra years warranty was my walk-away position and they gave it to secure the deal

No idea, but the BMW Warranty from BMW online is pretty cheap, I can't imagine why you'd buy a used car from a dealer when you can get (virtually) the same warranty online for substantially less than the cost of the car and included warranty from a BMW dealer.

I wouldn’t imagine a zero excess warranty on a 7 series would be cheap ?

If it were me, I'd get the highest excess (I think it's £250?)

My reasoning would be that if it's a minor fault (let's say, a failed sensor which costs £50) you would get a local garage to do it cheaper anyway. The warranty would just be for a larger fault for example infotainment or gearbox/engine fault.

I suspect in any event it would be better value for money buy a used car privately for £20k and spend £1000 on the warranty rather than spend £22k for the car and then perhaps a further £1000 for the second years AUC anyway?

I appreciate I'm more tight than some and the extra bit of effort on my part would be worth the saving. I'm sure for some they would rather just buy from a dealer.

In my case (as of 2 weeks ago on a 320D M-Sport Touring), the non-franchised dealers, car supermarkets (places like Arnold Clark, Cazoo, Fords of Windsford, MotorRange, et al) and independents within 100 miles were advertising higher prices than BMW AUC for comparable specs.

But to be fair, there were not hundreds (only about 20 in total) in the model/spec I was looking for to compare anyway.

No it’s actually £2300 I think.
