As title says really need a new car been driving my clapped out old Passat now for over a year ! (the longest I have ever owned a car), and although it keeps soldiering on slowly, goes in limp mode at least once a journey and doesn't let you in the car occasionally as well as the duel mass flywheel sounding like its about to explode but its holding up to daily abuse for and lets not even get started on the live to earth fault on the electric handbrake that randomly happens in slow moving traffic lol.

Budget is 10k ideally can stretch to 15ish really but with the current climate would rather stick to the lower end of the budget even under budget would be nice.

Must be somewhat fun with a bit of poke planning a ring trip back end of the year and don't think a diesel rep mobile will be very fun not expecting pinnacle of handling.

Would like a few toys heated seats would be nice

Want something that will hold its money

Needs to have a boot as big as my Passat

Now these are the options I have come up with so far:

Audi SQ5/Porsche Cayenne - Come in on the higher end of the budget think potential for big bills put me off, went to view a cayenne last week and it had a very noisy transfer box so walked away.

Civic FD2 - Now this is very left field been offered a nice one for 13.5 off a good friend, big Honda fan had dc2,dc5,ep3,atr,ek9 never owned a fd2 might be too harsh for daily use, depriciation non existent.

E91 - 330i/335d come in well under budget for a nice one with some toys, owned a 330D before and found it boring also looking quite dated now.

Octavia Vrs - Bit of a elephant in the room if you ask me seems to tick all boxes just not sold on them to be honest not sure

Sorry for long winded post, what would you buy with my budget with my needs ?

No rush want to get something over the next month or so.

TIA

If you need the Passat size boot you are in big car territory. If you can get a six cylinder 5 series in budget you can’t go too far wrong.

You sound like me 6 months ago.

I collect my Octavia VRS on Saturday.

Huge inside. Looks great. Goes fast enough to be interesting.

Or Skoda Superb. Loads out there. Petrol 2 litre models with 220 and 280 bhp.

280s won’t fit your budget. But some of the 220s might.
Huge inside.

Have a look. Other will be along with links!

Enjoy my 2013 3.0 XF Sportbreak, which replaced a 2007 Passat Estate. Bought 18 months ago with 80k on the clock for £11k. Comfortable, quick enough for an estate, spacious - decent goody count in Premium Luxury spec with a fab sound system. Prehistoric sat nav but it works. Fair economy too - but smaller tank than the Passat which is disappointing because I like a long range & hate filling stations.
In short, well worth a look not least because it's not an SUV.

I've had an Octavia VRS for nearly 5 years now. Great all rounder that i'm struggling to justify moving on from. Not the last word in excitement, but slots into family life perfect. Cheap to run, reliable, goes well. If you're not sold on them though, I'd be surprised if this convinced you otherwise.

6 cylinder 5 series is a good shout although I think they have a huge boot maybe a 3 series will suit better

Not that big. The BMWs tend to have impractically shaped load areas, I think you would need a 5er to match the Passat.

XF S/Brake in 3.0d form or a 530d would be what I'd search for given your criteria.

Cheers,

Chris

Passat Estate with 250bhp engine?

I had a 190 and it was a really nice car. Can't fault it tbh.

Also keep an eye out for the Insignia VXR supersport in estate form.

If you can live without an Estate but large hatchback then the VXR is well worth a look:

If you don't mind spending a little extra on fuel then this makes a lot of sense:
