Not to put to fine a point on it - clearly one would simply be honest and pay the duty.

And what one sends via the international mail in terms of paperwork is one's own business
It is foolish in the extreme to carry receipts for items in one's hand luggage...

Indeed many years ago I did this with some earrings I bought for girlfriend from S America. When I was stopped by Her Majesty's finest Customs fascist, anyway he found the receipt which I had in my hand luggage and was duly 'nabbed' - lesson learned (never bought her anything expensive again
). However if you're wearing your watch that you bought at home and don't have the receipt for where's the problem in that?

As an ex custom officer I can tell you that posting it is a crap idea. Not only do you risk being picked up, but the very fact that you pre-meditatedly sent your self the box proves your guilt in terms of a knowing offense of smuggling.
Oh how we used to enjoy opening parcels at the postal depot and finding an empty watch box
BTW I think you'll find that the only real tax you pay on the import is the VAT.
Your PA is, presumably, a female? That being the case I rather enjoy the thought of you wearing a girly watch

Oh how i would enjoy you trying to accuse me of smuggling when i have no idea what your talking about. I have never seen such a watch, how very odd, how did that get posted to me?
Alternatively, you buy in UK and fly to Australia. In the process you fake a decent Aussie accent and reclaim the VAT on the way out. On the way back, fake a decent English accent and reclaim it on the way back in.

If I knew how he did it, and knew it wasn't BS (which it most certainly could have been)....
How detailed is the customs check of a sales invoice for an item like this? After all it's possible to take the piss with bogus invoices until an investigation follows the paper trail... I wouldn't, but the only way to nail the perpetrator would be to prove the invoice was bogus in the country of issue (which would involve a fair amount of cross-jurisdiction paperwork)... you takes your chances

Well done chap Custom and Excise officers read forums such as this on a regular basis so you chances of not getting stopped at the airport have got somewhat slimmer now.
Reminds me of the two bank robbers who were planning a bank job in the pub and talking about it in front of half of Southend CID who were out celebrating a friend birthday.
