Hi All

My Dad has tendency to leave his phone indoors when he is working in the garage and garden and being slightly harder of hearing and usually having a hat on and using power tools he never hears any notifications on his phone.

Does anyone know of some sort of Bluetooth extender with a light or something or a pocket buzzer that he can take with him.

Ideally not something for accessibility though as he is quite sensitive about that.

Or a Bluetooth speaker? They all have microphones built in, so will work as handsfree to take the call too. So long as the range is OK you would turn it on and off when outside and the calls would just be routed there.

If the range isn't good enough or you want a bit more finesse you can use Microsoft Phone Companion in Windows 10 with a laptop or PC and you get everything on the PC as well as the phone.

I assume you want something semi-permanent some how though, otherwise won't he just forget to take it out with him or turn it on etc? Not sure what that leaves.

Perhaps a smartwatch is the best bet if he's someone that always remembers to put their watch on?

If he's ok with wearing a tracker he could get something like the Mi Band5 as it will buzz when his phone rings. It's only about 23 quid as well.

Maybe once he's been vaccinated Bill Gates can just enable that feature for him?

If gates could make sure that he actually picks his phone up that would be good.

Realistically if he doesn't take his phone with him what are the chances he'll take a separate device that is linked to his phone?

How far's the garage? A Bluetooth smartwatch will struggle if it's more than a few meters and a couple of walls.

Does he have a landline as well? If so could you fit an extension in the garage?

Have you considered the fact that he may not wish to be bothered by his phone?

It's not this, it's because I had to tell him not to put his smart phone in his toolbox, work bench, on the car, on a motor bike, in an old gear box, with the screwdrivers etc. pretty much anywhere one shouldn't put a new iphone...

I fitted a lifeproof case which he took off as it made it too big and likes the phone as it is.

He complains that the ringer isn't loud enough. I've tried turning on the flashing function, but now he doesn't take the phone with him.

As my parents are vulnerable (for Covid and a few other things) I worry. My brother used to check on them a lot as he was close by, but after some dcensoredd killed him 1/4 mile from mum and dad's house, the situation isn't the easiest from a welfare one, especially given Covid.

Fit Lightwave switches to every room of the house. Then use IFTTT to flash the lights when it rings. A simple low cost solution....You’re welcome.

Sorry about your brother.

Do you use the Alexa system?
A couple of their units, maybe a echo show in the house and an echo dot in the garage would allow you to "drop in" without the need for a phone and an just be left in situ enabling you to chat wherever he is in the house.

Yes, there must be 100 solutions using IFTTT! Does he have a pacemaker? My Dad's reports back to base so it can probably be linked into IFTTT.
