Mods, sorry if in wrong section, was between this and homes & DIY!

Looking to upgrade my desk as using an old fairly small one at the moment.

I'm looking for something at around 200CM/79IN and at least 25IN deep. Don't really need storage underneath but don't mind.

I'll likely be fitting 2x 27" Monitors on a clamp stand so I'm not overly keen on the likes of ikeas hexcore type ones, heard mixed things about monitor clamps causing issues with these. Is there any go-to places that won't cost an arm and a leg before I end up just building one from some wooden kitchen worktop or the like? Google is full of mixed results, I imagine with everyone WFH companies are oging SEO mad so it's just advertisements or amazon really.

Budget up to maybe £300 or so. Thanks!

160x80cm, so a little narrow:

But half your budget. It's solid wood. I've a monitor clamp on mine, with a 38" monitor. It's fine.

Add a custom cut piece of plywood for the top?

A friend of mine is a video editor and has this sort of setup - I think he uses a old IKEA sit/stand base IIRC

I bought a custom size reclaimed wood desk, and I absolutely love it.

I had it made by these people on Ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Solid-Wood-Handmade-Rus...

I got mine in quite a fairly generous 160cm x 80cm to give me more room, and it's great, but if you wanted it bigger at 200cm wide I think this would be no problem.

Heavy, sturdy, looks good and is around 5cm thick so perfect for a monitor clamp, which is what I use on mine with dual 25" Dell monitors. I use a £30 clamp from Amazon which I find to be perfect.

The desk cost me around £280 inc delivery, and I got it in 'dark oak' colour which is quite a nice light honey brown colour, and I got the bare steel legs which look great.

Recommended.

Making your own is insanely easy, as easy as assembling a bought one.

Here's one I did recently. 2000 x 22 x 610 mm solid oak worktop (ebay shop "the.chippy.shop") for £125, plus hairpin legs for £60 (the hairpin leg company). Light rub on the worktop with 180 sandpaper (didn't really need to though as it was delivered in a perfectly good finish). A light coat of Danish oil and then screw the legs on. Done.

Solid oak is very substantial and will easily take the weight of a monitor bracket. Put a piece of scrap wood as load spreading packing on the underside if you want to be double sure and prevent any indentation on the wood.

I then got a bit carried away and did matching shelves. I couldn't get the right size of wood so I just got another identical worktop and ripped in in to three strips. And shelf brackets from the leg place.

Note that you can get thicker worktops at 40mm thick which are more substantial, but will make it incredibly heavy! You can also get hairpin legs much cheaper off ebay so you can easy get the total cost under £200 including oil and sandpaper.

At my last house, when we redid the kitchen, I kept a worktop and some cupboards for my 10'6"' x 12'3" office (4th bedroom). I had to modify the height of the cupboards, but that was easy enough. It looked good as well (not sure why a new kitchen was needed and I was frightened to ask.) When we moved, the purchaser asked if I'd leave the set-up. It was too big for the new place, so kept an eye on local ads for someone breaking a kitchen, but none came early enough. Shame as it was the best computer desk I'd ever had. Solid, easy to clean, and there was lots of cupboard space.
