Apart from the regular failing of their internet banking web site, I've tried to contact them today about a possible fraud attempt and cannot get through.
You have to telephone, there's no chat or email option and after typing in account number, sort code, last three numbers, date of birth, you're just left listening to the phone ringing out.
They've also screwed up the interest payment on a current account.

How do you move banks?

Well don’t bother with Santander!
I tried to get through to them the other day and kept getting directed to the chat button, but there was no chat button. When I did get through to a human, after about 30 mins on hold, he didn’t know the answer to my query and hung up on me.
All “because Corona”.

Good Luck finding a bank where you wont hold for long at the moment.

Most banks are short staffed at the moment due to the current pandemic.

Have you considered going into the branch to discuss it with them?

I had a card compromised with Lloyds the other week. Was on hold with them for 40 mins until I got through to someone, during which time I could see live more and more transactions being made on my card, and trying to freeze the card in the app gave me a coding error.

Kinda pissed me off

I have to agree OP, they are a terrible bank and getting hold of them is luck of the draw, my nearest branch is probably 20 miles away, as everything local is now shutdown.Their banking app goes down quite frequently, but you know what, for the amount of time I need to interact with them, I just put up with it. I also have their premier account with them and every other year they seem to drop the benefit, but keep charging the same..

I left TSB a couple of years ago, moved to HSBC, I realised for a while they were bad but I recall the final straw was one Saturday when I made a rare visit to the local branch and the queue was pretty wrong with only one counter open out of 4 and another woman walking down the queue obviously looking for anyone with a potentially profitable reason for being there not just a mundane deposit etc and I saw a sign on one of the closed counters which banks apparently have to display showing the banks customer satisfaction rating against other high street banks. At that time TSB were 14th on the list and well below just about every other bank I had ever heard of.

HSBC were second at the time only beaten by First direct who are also a HSBC company so I moved, process was really simple, I did it all online throguh HSBC's website and filled in a couple of forms and they did it all for me including moving direct debits etc.

First Direct. I've been with them 20+ years; they've never put a foot wrong, always answer the phone quickly and if you have a problem they fix it.

TSB's online banking site feels like it's stuck in the last millennium.

Switching bank is like switching energy provider. Go to the new one and give them the details, after which they trigger the process to get you money, direct debits etc moved over.

I’d start by opening the new account checking the service that you are happy before asking them to switch, although some banks have incentives so make the switch part of account opening.

Starling is my pick if you are happy to go all digital and get a 21st century experience (they do have phone support if you need it) or First Direct if you want something more established.

SantanderUKHelp are pretty responsive on Twitter. If you don’t get satisfaction there through DM (direct messaging, post publicly. It’s the modern way!

Interesting that most are the same.
I also have an HSBC account but the nearest HSBC high street bank is Glasgow, about 2 hours away. It is the "worlds local bank" after all.
The TSB branch is only about 9 mile away which is why I hang onto them. Was useful to pay in the odd cheque and there was a bit of interest on the current account if you paid in £500/month. That interest reduced so it works out at a little over £1 / month now for the current balance. Cheques can apparently be paid in with a photograph now on HSBC, yet to try it.
After my grumble the other day when I couldn't get an answer to my phone call, I went for lunch and came back half an hour later. The web site had crashed again!
I did have a First Direct Acc at one time, might reinstate it. High street options locally are Bank of Scotland (HBOS), Royal Bank of Scotland (Natwest) or Clydesdale.
