TUSCANS FALLING USED PRICES

Ive noticed from the classifieds that the prices of used tuscans have fallen as low as £24,000,with prices this low i am seriously tempted to buy one even with the reliability issues.The ones i have seen have no more than 10 grand on the clock,whats the reason why so many are off loading them so early.Are people bored with them already ( cant think why) or are there other issues.I love my tvr to death and if i were to sell it a tuscan is what i want to trade up to

I was wondering the same thing. A few sellers dropping their prices very quickly. Hmmm? Then again could just be either keep asking for a high price and get nowt or drop lower and get a result. From what I've gathered most TVR's seem to get sold to previous owners or people who are genuinely passionate about the marque.

Seems to be the 2000 model that has dived the most and very recently. Very tempting to upgrade the chimaera (very sorted) but wondering if I would be buying into some problems. Any comments from PH who have gone from a chimp to a tuscan?

I've been watching the prices of used Tuscans very closely too and noticed the drop. This, along with all the reliability issues, has made me wonder if they're that cheap what's wrong with 'em? Or have residuals on two year old Tuscans suddenly taken a nose dive for other reasons?

The general consensus seems to be to buy one with over 10k on the clock to make sure anything major should have come to light and been sorted. As a lot of the ones I'm seeing have a lot less than 10k I'm now seriously considering getting a brand new one and having the full warranty than risk getting a used one and have the engine pop with little or no warranty left.

Still, £25k for a Tuscan would be much easier on my poor moth-eaten wallet than £40k+...

Maybe it's to do with the fact that a large proportion of TVR owners are in IT, and the industry is suffering at the moment, hence the first thing to go is the car...?

Hmm could be because the 2000 cars were a pain in the behind.. mine was and after 18months and 12,000 miles, I got rid of it. Shame as it looks the biz, but when it spent more time in the dealers than in my garage I got too fed up with it.

Will now wait for the new tamora to get itself well underway and then buy one in perhaps a year or two.

This is the exact reason why I'm wary of buying one used. Ah well, got my test drive at TMS this weekend. Better leave the chequebook at home to be safe

Could it be the 2000 models with low milage that are being sold because they are running low on warranty and they havent had any problems, so therefore are getting rid so as to avoid the expence when the finger followers go and the motor is out of warranty!!!

I bought mine in may (17k miles) just after having a engine rebuild, now on for 21k and going strong and loving it!!!

Its funny isnt it - a quick search of Autotrader revealed a few for less than £30K. But looking carefully and you can see a few on the original set of wheels, some with very low mileage (3000 miles) and some without aircon - all make them slightly harder to sell. Especially as we are getting into Winter now and this makes selling sports cars hard...

All in all I think the pricing is about right. But thats my opinion though.

I traded up from a 450 chimp to a 10k miles X reg. Tuscan. Advice i got was to ensure car had been back to the factory for a rebuild which it had. Although a car with less miles seems a better bet, it's had no chance to "blow up". A must have head turner for not a lot of money.

I swapped from a Chimp to a Tuscan in July. I have an October 2000 model with 18" wheels, AC, nice colour combo, RR suspension/brakes, full audio including DAB, 12,000 mile service done and new Toyos all round. Cost me £30K. Car had a little over 11K on the clock - noe got over 14K. No trouble at all with it.

I worked on the assupmtion that with over 11K on the clock (and rebuild at 6K) that engine problems have been sorted. 12K service included tappets adjustments (expensive). Also that the car had taken a £18K drop in less than 2 years that it was better for someone else to take that rather than hurt me on a new one. Cars that are going cheap need to be scrutinised very carefully - low mileage, 16" wheels and lack of AC may be undesirable 'features' of a particular car that are represented by a lower asking price - and of course that winter will soon be upon us.

I did my homework and have been delighted with my car - just done 1,000 miles on a 4 day holiday to Scotland and it has been just perfect. If anyone is considering a purchase and needs a little reassurance than email me. £30K for a 360 bhp car with such incredible performance - it would be RUDE not to!!!

Mine is sept 2000, fantastic car - 24000 miles, with new everything, has aircon, topaz, hydratrack and all the usual problems have come to light, been fixed, car better than its ever been. I hope to get 26 for mine, 28 if to go with the plate , the hifi and all ten wheels (trackdays) and covers.
The reason I'm selling is not because I'm bored - quite the opposite - I've ordered an R!
Prices are falling on lots of things because the economy is a bit pants - thats all - Phoney Tony to blame again!

You could buy an early tuscan for circa £26K in Nov/Dec last year, so £24k now seems reasonable to me as the earliest cars are now 2.5 years old (around 45% depreciation is OK)

I sold my July 2000 Tuscan (new alloys, no aircon) in June this year for around 28K. In retrospect I think I made the right decision as I reckon I would have struggled to get much above £25k today. I sold it to release some capital for share options and because it wasn't getting much use. But in addition to this many of the points made on this thread applied to some extent. Factory warranty about to expire with only 8K on the clock, and that in the previous 3-6 months prices had seen to have quickly gone from £33-£34K to £28-£30K. I think that a combination of circustances (reliabilty concerns, IT industry buggered, general economic gloom, start of summer) all contributed to a glut of Tuscans being available in April/May - there werre over 100 for sale on autotrader, and some panic pricing resulted in cars going for less than they could have (one potential purchaser for mine bought another Tuscan which was originally priced at £30K, and the seller dropped to £26.5K for a quick sale.)As aresult of that period I reckon that tuscans have been irreversable undervalued by about 3-4K IMHO. Buying a new car and keeping it for 2 years is about the best way to lose a lot of dosh quickly, but I reckon it was worth it (5k a year)to have had such a phenomenal car when they were so rare. Once life has settled down again and there are some spare funds, I'll get another TVR, but certainly not new.

I bought mine in July advertised with AC 18" and 6000m, April 2000 car £29950 colour was metallic oxford green which i don't think is the best for the car and the magnolia leather rflects like hell on my local tree lined roads. Shade blur shade blur etc.
Paid £29000 to a dealer with a year warranty. Advert was crap though. It only had 2000m on it, the a/c was fubar but has bin to blackpool for replacement, back tomorrow and it has 16" alloys. didn't complain about the last because being contrary I would have asked for 16" alloys if the dealer could find a set at no cost being an olde fashioned geezer i prefer the progression a higher profile offers even at the expense of ultimate grip. Its got stacks anyway. Not to mention kerbs.
In retrospect the mileage is way too low for safety as it is out of TVR warranty. Dealer warranty is best thought of as useless until they actually pay up.

Nothing like being positive !!!, the idea is to buy the car and have fun not sweat on resale values, all these negative comments must have dropped the value by another few K's.

Ok then hows this for a drop in value, talking to my local dealer yesterday, they have a couple of astons in there, a standard V8 vantage at 99,999 and another one being prepped.... He sold it new 2 years ago for 275K !!!!!!!! complete with 600bhp engine upgrade ( i think he said the engine upgrades were 40k)
when asked how much it will go on sale for the answer was about 150k... so i wonder how much he paid for it, so its lost atleast 50% in two years...

that must smart abit...
and you guys are worried over 15K.....
