Hi all

My boy (aged 8) plays fifa online with his mates. Has been for a a while, on Xbox one.

At Xmas he was a lucky boy and Santa supplied the series X, Which he’s happily been playing since. Poked my head around the door today to listen to the chat and it seems he can’t play fifa anymore with his mates, most of whom are on Xbox one/ one x consoles.

A bit of Googling suggests you can play across generations of console, can anyone confirm:-

Can you?
How do you do it?

Cheers folks

I’m not able to play with my mate,I’m on PS5 and he’s PS4.

Caught me out to be honest as I only bought the game to have a few games with him, I should have checked first I suppose but all the other games I play aren’t an issue so didn’t expect FIFA to be any different!

You have to have the Xbox One version installed on the Series X then you can play with friends.
The series X version has improved optimizations and changes which class it as a different game. You may have to uninstalled the Series X version.
So you can play across generations. This includes PS too.

Ok. So we had the disc version for the Xbox one. He must have upgraded it to the series x version when installing? So process is to uninstall and reinstalll the game, somehow choosing just the Xbox one version?

For anyone who stumbles across this, you need to find the Xbox one version in the Microsoft store. Currently it has a white background (the X|S version is black)

For me, I couldn’t find it on the Store through the Xbox, but weirdly was there on the app, which I could then install to the console.
