I realise that, particularly at this point in time, it's not the done thing to be praising the French - but boy have they got this nailed! "...law to protect the noises and smells of the countryside..."

No problem with country sounds or smells, but airports? They're not so nice when test running engines at 4am.

The sound of suburbia drives me nuts though with petrol lawnmowers and strimmers etc every weekend.

Don't have a shower or change your clothes for a week.

Eat things that would make a goat sick and call it 'haute cuisine'

Drive like an idiot while pissed in a 30 year old rotbox

Work 3 days a week and pretend you're productive

Yeah, sounds great to be like the French.

hehe

Genetically the French are born to permanently smell la belle fromage, onions and garlic, so anything is an improvement above that, non?

Last figures I saw agree with this. Not sure about the ‘much’ bit mind.

22.3% is a fair amount.

"UK productivity as 21.8 per cent lower than that of the US; 22.3 per cent lower than France and 25.6 per cent lower than Germany. ... Yet this still doesn't explain why France, where workers take more holidays and put in fewer hours each week than the British, is more productive than the UK. "

Looks like the local residents near to the Albi circuit have won in thier bid to getting it closed due to noise.
Although i believe there is a petition against the ruling.

Strict weekend laws in France protect residents from noise of mowers etc particularly on Sunday's but not gun noise if you live in the sticks.

French unemployment (pre-lockdown) was double ours.

Saturday morning was shooting time when I was there, then off for a répas de chasse and pissup.

They'd cook up whatever they shot, hedgehogs/sparrows/rabbits/rats and just about anything else moving. hehe

Do they have laws to protect residents from greengrocer's apostrophes?

They have a huge black economy though so the figures may be a bit skewed.

I was once tasked with finding out why a UKs factory right first time measure was lower than one in France, and why our productivity was lower.

First, they had a second assembly line. Where they were "tweeked" and went back through the testing and they declared 100% right first time when.it was 70% against our 97%.
Secondly, their "standard time" was 20% longer than ours, so they hit it.
However they did have a better stock rotation and delivery system and had less WIP so we weren't perfect.

Anyone who moves house to near any of the following places:

Farm
Racetrack
Pub
Nightclub
Bar
School
University
Factory
Airport
Live music venue
Pheasant/clay shoot
Sporting venue
Industrial estate

Then proceeds to complain about any noise or disturbance needs to be automatically fined £1000 for every noise complaint they make to the local authorities or the business.

It's fair game for complaints if you are living peacefully in your home and then someone sets up a noisy business near you, but to move next to something then complain... I dislike people like that.

I was trained in MTM1 in 1997, and it's interesting that whilst it is an internationally used system.of time estimation, Bristish Standard 100 Time = American Standard 120 Time. That is if a US assembly operator achieved the same time, as the UK o be, they would congratulate them.for working 20% over target. Note that the target assume trained motivated and sustainable for an 8 hour shift.

Might explain the difference.

That is exactly what happened at Mallory Park a few years ago, some new residents in Kirkby Mallory decided to have a whinge about the noise from the track ffs, I believe a similar thing also happened at Croft. What do people expect when they move into a village where there's a race circuit? irked
