Afternoon. Wonder if the forum can help.

I have 2019 Cayenne.

There is a whirring / ticking noise from under the central Consol Control Panel in the approx area of the Sport button

It goes tick-tick-tick-tick-tick which takes about 2 seconds, then a 10 second gap and it does it again.

It is under warranty so whilst I can make it their problem I would rather say that the "xxxxx" is faulty and making a noise.

Does anyone know what is under there that could make such a noise? It sounds like a motor going round which ticks on each revolution.

Thank you

Have you signed up to the Connect Services and PVTS system with Driver Cards? When the system is searching for the cards there is a noise like a HDD spinning up from the console.

Pre PDI the cars all do it; but generally once fully set-up they don't.

The sound is emitted by the antenna as far as I know; it is positioned just in front of the cupholder. Have any of your subscriptions or contracts expired?

Thanks for the reply.

I have just bought it.

The car seems to come with 1 year connect which has expired. I have bought a SIM card and applied for a porches Id so I will complete it in the next few days.

Does the antenna move on a motor ? Strange an antenna would make a noise! And what is the antenna trying to locate ? I have the theft protection fobs but they are not in the car and not activated.

Thanks

Strangely the antenna has no moving parts; I liken it to the sort of interference you used to get with a mobile phone - that dit dit-da dit - chirpy sound.

The Driver Cards are linked to the PVTS for Driver recognition; without them an activated car will call Vodafone and let you know via your phone/App on the status of the car. As I see a lot of cars prior to delivery I heard and got used to the sound pretty quickly, at first thought it was the Central Computer (PCM) HDD but later learned otherwise.

Once you subscribe and the systems are activated the noise tends to stop. If you choose not to it's easy to forget about - either way no need to worry

I had the same thing with my 992 I subscribed to the tracker service, but after the first year didn’t resubscribe. So I stopped carrying the drivers card, then started getting this noise, dealer says it’s the antenna looking for the card even though the subscription is not valid! I now keep a card in the centre console which has stopped this noise!

Thank you. Solved!

There were 2 issues.

I determined that there was no ticking with a combination of one remote fob and one tracker fob.

One remote would flash and the other would not. I changed the battery in the one that did not and then no ticking with either remote for or one tracker fob. Interestingly there was no battery low warning and the fob unlocked / started the car fine.

I then changed the battery in the still ticking tracker fob - but no change.

So it would seem that one tracker fob is faulty and I will pass it over to Porsche to resolved under warranty.

I am in London but bought the car in Chester and they had serviced it the day before. They were very helpful on the phone but also said that the "antenna" was likely not faulty and some of them are very noisy - which seems a daft design.

Anyway at least I have a combination that does not lead to ticking!

Thank you
