Breakdown Cover recommendations please!

I have recently changed my bank account, and so no longer receive free AA cover. Just looked at the AA and RAC price list and see that I will be paying around £120 for:

- Roadside
- Relay
- Home start

Seems pretty even in terms of the two companies, but does anyone have a preference? Or suggest a better value alternative?

I am also going to France next weekend in the 1991 Griffith, for which they appear to want an extra £50 - £70 for the privilege! – Good value?

I would definitely recommend the AA after I used them for the first time in ages last Sunday.
Booked a time for them to look at the car and they turned up 5 mins after that time and diagnosed the problem.
Not fixable, so needed a low loader to take to the dealers... AA Texted me to say when low loader would arrive (arrived 15 mins before they mentioned). The driver was from Blackpool, loved TVR's and had a special strap which apparently had been designed in conjunction with TVR etc to winch the car up the ramp - he even took special care placing wooden blocks under the wheels to make sure splitter and cans did not ground.

Very pleased with the service (although free with my bank account...)

Are you a member of the TVRCC? Through Mannings insurance a policy can be got for £49 that mirrors (and is better in some areas) both AA and RAC. although you may need to hold an insurance policy with them.

No, not good value in my opinion.

But it depends how long the cover is for.

I recently took my '95 Griff to France, 5 days cover was £24.00 and included return to my house (Ooop North). Britannia Recovery.

AA for me - I've used them several times in the last couple of years, and have always been impressed by their service.

My latest experience is detailed here

The cover I've got (5* European) is as standard limited to cars under 10 years old, however I believe they will extend the cover to older vehicles for an additional fee - well worth it in my opinion.

.Mark - good point about the insurance, forgot about that - they offered breakdown cover at my last renewal, will follow up on that!

I have that too.

Recomend AA Option 200 at £79 online. Since I've had it I've never broken down. Works wonders, don't know how they do it.

Two up and flat out for half hour was enough for our little 125cc Honda to blow its piston, we were coming back from F.O.S. R.A.C. sorted us nice and quick with a transporter.

On the other hand in the past we have had a 5 hour wait

Just depends how busy they are when you need them, and I reckon this go'es for most of them IMHO.
