Having some real irritating issues with my iPhone 12 mini after moving house. Google is failing me in terms of finding answers but PH never lets me down.

Two issues:

1. The weather app widget or the app itself is constantly wavering between new area and old area. We’re about 30 miles from where we used to live. Seems to be independent of whether on 4g or wifi.

2. Maps app will not save my home location. I can save any location as a general favourite but as soon as I try to set somewhere as home, nothing happens.

Have you also moved your Wi-Fi router or Wi-Fi system with you from the old location to the new location?

Yes. I use unifi AP's so I moved them and have kept the network name and password etc the same. Though it's all now fed from a 4G router rather than VM Fibre we had before.

I guess you're pondering whether the wifi location is clinging to old place? It doesn't seem to make a difference if I have wifi on or off though.

It takes a week or so for Google, Apple etc. to realise your router/APs have moved, so until they update their databases you will experience problems.

I moved at the end of December but I think think everything settled down by the end of the second week in January. Until then I would frequently appear back at my old house, or randomly in the middle of a field nearby.

You can apparently help 'train' the location services by walking in and out of range of your wifi, letting the hand-off between cellular and wifi reinforce where the devices are physically located. I suspect there is a table showing last x A-GPS locations for every AP and until this is flushed with newer entries you will still be a bit variable.

How are you trying to do this? I thought Maps gets your home location from the address you set for your own contact card in Contacts.

Yes. That is set as my new address. It simply will not save any favourite, work, home or school. It will only save generic address as favourites. As soon as I identify one as home/work etc, nothing happens. .

I've tried doing it various different ways but no joy.

Cheers for the info regarding locations. I've registered with skyhook but no change so I guess I'll just have to see if that changes over next few days.

That is very strange, could try uninstalling and reinstalling Maps, if you haven’t done so already?

I had a similar issue a few years ago. My location would jump 3500 miles as soon as I connected to WiFi at home. laugh
I was using Google Maps though, but just reported the issue within the app and it was resolved within a couple of hours. Not sure if you can do similar on Apple Maps.
As others have mentioned it can take time for the Wi-Fi maps to be updated.
