Best paint care for Aston Martin
Discussion
Hi there, I’m new here so not yet all that familiar with the site.
I have a 2007 Aston Martin Vantage in Onyx metallic black. I bought it to cheer me up after a mid life crisis and have now had it for about 5 years. I love it. It’s not a Porsche (without oddities) but for me it is a more special car.
About a year after I bought it, I had the curbed wheels repaired all the chips repaired and a proper polish and ceramic coat. It looked immaculate. It also had a continued Aston main dealer service record which now I have stopped for reasons I will chat about later, if anyone is interested
The body work cost me €1500 and I can see it dulling a tad.
Autoglym products are stuffed in my cupboard but now Autoglym have ceramic products.
Anyone used them and have any process recommendations? I’ve looked at Autoglym site and quite honestly there are just simply too many products to even start considering which direction to go in.
Do I polish the car first? I know t cut is old hat. Do I use a rotational polisher before using the Autoglym which I’m faithful to keep to?
I have the old polishers and resin finishing products but it seems they are old hat lo now just like t cut?
Comments very much welcomed.

Hi Rick,
I don't have an Aston, but.....
For the paintwork,
1.give it a wash, ( two bucket method or with a snow foam lance.)
2. Clay the car (I use Meguiars Quik Clay)
3. Polish the car (I like Autoglym Super Resin Polish on black cars)
4. Protect and wax the car (I have started using Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax - seems to last a while, looks good and easy to top up)
If that doesn't bring it back by hand, I would look to the professionals again given you have an Aston....

Autoglym super resin is still a very good product, if the paint isn’t too bad I’d use that and top it off with their UHD wax.
Most of their products are still very good.
If you did let a detailer do it then it would be easier for you to maintain afterwards, depends how much spare time you have.

As above really..
> Wash, 2 bucket method and a very soft washmitt and equally soft drying towel.
> Don't clay the car as you'll inflict a shed load of clay marring as AM clearcoat is very soft (which is why it picks up defects easily and the finish has degraded since you had the car ceramic coated)
> AutoGlym Super Resin is an excellent product and is very much overlooked by many (for various reasons) - it cleans the paint surface chemically as opposed to using abrasives, leaves behind some fillers and a little protection but is the ideal base for many sealants or waxes.
> Autoglym HD wax very good, as is Bilt Hamber double speed wax and Collinte 476S.
If you want specific recommendations for any other products feel free to drop me a DM.
Cheers,
Chris
