First 100b quarter in history, but Jeff's leaving.

Thankfully, now, I don't need to care which way it goes.

Could this be just Another Tim Cook style situation? people had doubts about him but he’s done a very good job at Apple, timing of the announcement was annoying shares may have gained similar to Alphabet otherwise. Sell half keep the rest maybe?

There will have been a carefully crafted succession plan. It wasn’t unplanned like Jobs catching cancer.

Also, the new CEO heads up AWS which is Amazon’s biggest earner.

I’d sit tight.

Exactly this, AWS man now at the helm. If there is any pullback on the share price it’s simply a good time to scoop up some more shares at a discount imo.

Well I’ve gone a month without using AMZN.

Aiming to stop altogether.

I know Amazon retail is almost a loss leader subsidised by AWS.

In my view Prime is losing out to Netflix, and NowTV are upping their game.
Also Disney and Apple are on the scene.

Free delivery is often missed due to Covid, and quite often Amazon aren’t the best price any more.

Finally, anyone who isn’t Amazon directly selling is either from Quangzonshingdangdoolala selling 1p st for £10 a time, or is an existing shop who you can often lookup and buy direct at a lower price.

All the random stuff for kids that is probably toxic. Or chargers that burn your house down.

Trying to filter *just* for Amazon as the seller is annoyingly difficult.

Then there was the whole special made junk quality stuff to sell cheaper on Amazon, like Levis jeans that last 6 months and are 10% cheaper than in the proper shops.

They have no USP. Just inertia/brand.

Mixed feelings, own a lot less than i did so sitting tight. My investments are far too focussed on tech overall but i feel it has a way to go, and AWS underpins a lot of that, and amazon has so many brands itself.

Wonder if they would ever spin off AWS

Jeff hasn't done too badly. His wealth increased by over $600bn during the covid crisis.

In fact the top wealthiest made $4trillion over this period.

Another 500 million or so now into poverty over the same period.

Wouldn't it be nice if they could find a way to distribute these one-off gains to those 500 million?

Just a thought.

correction: sorry, misled by article, not Jeff is $600bn richer, the richest in total

Not sure where to go with that, but as a starter for ten; Bezos’ wealth hasn’t grown by nearly 600bn. His entire net worth is less than a third of that.

Granted, he doesn’t need to worry too much about the bill when he’s reading the dinner menu at his local Beefeater on along the A1, but there’s no need to fabricate garbage.

I've rarely used Amazon, and as more stories arise about how they treat marketplace sellers have actively gone direct where possible. I worry they stifle competition which in the long run is bad news for all of us.

It's easier when you don't want a smart speak / smart house, and have never bothered to subscribe to prime.

I suspect I'm in the minority though, so I don't think there will be any significant changes to the share price. (All conjecture with no research spin, I'll leave that to the experts)

I think the biggest risk to Amazon, and Google will be being forced to break up their business following legislation changes, lets see what Biden's administration think about tech stocks.

Well the top richest didn’t ‘make’ anything unless they sold stock.

They’re worth a load more if people would continue buying at high values while they’re selling their positions.

Worrying lack of attention to detail to the numbers by someone who lists their occupation as Accountant!

Perhaps! Although, while I don’t agree with stifling business success, there is a bit of an ethical dilemma that leafy alludes to, that makes for a decent conversation.

I believe the former Mrs Bezos casually donated a few billion to pandemic aid last year, which is wonderful to see.

You might think so, but in the context of the share price, you almost certainly still "use Amazon". AWS has something like one third of the market share of all cloud computing, so I'd pretty much guarantee that did something today that resulted in Amazon getting some money!

That’s true, but I’m not sure who pays them and if they’re getting a good deal.

If everyone in that picture is happy then AWS is probably safe.

Given the rise in concern over web privacy, which powers google ads and thus all websites and thus AWS, I’m a bit on the fence on the value there.

Sold all my shares after the earnings mainly just to put that money into something a bit more volatile, that’s my play money.

They’ve fked it for me. I couldn’t find Escape from L.A. on prime earlier. They’ve lost it.

This as a challenge has a high possiblity of occurring but whats the risk? If Amzn spun AWS, AWS would instantly become one of the largest companies by Mkt Cap/Revenue in the world.

Amzn are a software company who happen to use it to ship you books and the rest, whether it be toot from China, Chad or Chipping Norton. That software mindset will pretty much keep them where they are, they will disrupt healthcare next, probably finance or edu next.

I am not a holder but a mate manages the slaves staff in one of their warehouses..he grew up doing warehouse work and earned his chops over the years. No early forties makes a mint and has a lovely lifestyle afforded by the RSUs he gets.

So what is their USP?

We sell things via this new “internets” (Everyone)

We sell lots of things all in one place? (eBay etc)

We sell things with fast delivery? (Loads)

We sell quality products? (Loads)

We sell cheap Chinese ste with long delivery time’s? (Aliexpress)

We let people review products, but seemingly bad reviews are harder to see these days (most now)

Unless their USP is bundling telly with free postage? Yes that makes them worth trillions $$$
