Hi all .. not having much luck with this so I don't know if anyone here can help.

I have a sumup card machine at work, I registered it with my address as email@gmail.com

I use this@ gmail.com version often as its less typing than using the @googlemail.com option. My email address actually ends in @googlemail.com though.

Now my laziness to type out the full @googlemail.com ending has bitten me on the bum ... I want to cancel my sumup account but they only accept cancellation emails from an email using the exact same address as the sumup account was set up in, not unsurprising really but it is causing me a problem. I set the sumup account up up using @gmail.com and my email account will only send an email with the @googlemail.com ending.

I have tried to explain to sumup support that the gmail and googlemail addresses are interchangeable and that I cannot send an email using the gmail.com ending .. any email i send automatically defaults to the googlemail.com ending.

The option is to not use the sumup account for 2 years after which it is cancelled by default, but it would be great to cancel it now but i don't know how to get sumup to do that. I don't intend to use the account anyway, the sumup card machine has auto-locked me out (familiar common issue it seems ) - they want me to buy a new machine and i have since swapped to izettle.

Once again, their customer support team are not much help and just say that their system does not recognise my googlemail address, because on their system it is a gmail address. My fault, but I can't be the only person facing this issue.

Is there any way to force an email to send with a @gmail.com ending rather than @googlemail.com ending ?

Hope all that makes sense ..

cheers

dannnd

Just had a quick play and it looks like you should be able to add your @googlemail.com address as a 'send mail as' option and then select it when you compose a mail..

Go to settings > Accounts & Import > Send mail as (add another email address) and then type in your @googlemail.com email..

Give it a go

Hi .. that wasn't an option previously for me (i'd tried all sorts of things to find such a setting and much of what the internet described didn't appear to be in my version of gmail) BUT clutching at straws I switched from using basic html (which i use all the time as I tether my phone to get web access at work and it reduces data usage and speeds things up a little) to standard view and that setting became available .. sadly it says I can't add the gmail version to my googlemail , but gave me the option to switch to a gmail ending (with the option to switch back later if required) so I have just done that and will send sumup another email and try again.

thanks for the info .. once I swapped out of basic html version of the webpage it started to make more sense ..

cheers!
