Your taxi driver turns up wearing...
Discussion
I would like my drivers to wear a uniform.
We are just a run of the mill taxi firm, Hyundai, Toyota, Ford, all modern stuff, all silver with burgundy signwriting, but my drivers wear what they like. To be fair though, they don't look scruffy. No shell suits or tracksuit bottoms and dirty tee shirts.
I'd like to provide a uniform that looks smart without making them look too much like chauffeurs and certainly not like airline pilots or nightclub bouncers. I was thinking along the lines of shirt and tie and black trousers and shoes and some sort of jacket and perhaps a v-necked jumper?
I'm not aiming for the Merc E class private hire stuck up clientelle, but I would like to set us apart from the scruffy mess that is the local taxi ranks. Our service and reputation already does that, but I think the cherry would be a uniform. To clarify, we don't chase the 'alright if I bring my kebab?' trade. Ours is more contract work for local businesses and councils. We do very little (none at the moment!!) cash work.
Any suggestions please?

Maybe provide a dress code rather than a uniform, say formal attire since that seems to be the look you were going for. Then they can wear what looks good on them while still maintaining your corporate image, which might be important in a diverse workforce.
I love a nice uniform myself, particularly now I have to wear a horrendous crew neck pullover and cargo trousers as part of mine!
(Only one more months until I can wear a shirt...) But some people get a bit arsey when someone tells them what to wear, probably a hangover from school days. Have you asked your employees what they think of the idea?

Isn't a shirt, tie, shoes and black trousers a tad dated?
What about a branded polo shirt with smart casual trousers/chino's and a shoes?
This. The drivers will no doubt be much happier also. What about a branded polo shirt with smart casual trousers/chino's and a shoes?
Shirt and tie in a taxi? It's 2021!
I would hate to be one of your drivers and be made to wear a fleece. Some people including myself can't wear fleeces because certain fabrics (velvet is the most common) are very unpleasant to touch due to sensory issues. I myself have problems with velvet, synthetic fleece, brushed cotton and any of that super-soft synthetic fluffy material many dressing gowns are made from today. It sends fingernails on a blackboard shivers down my spine when I touch any of them. These issues can affect up to 20% of the population, so it's not uncommon at all.
Instead of choosing particular items to be worn, I'd let them choose anything smart casual but from a corporate colour palette.
