Anyone on here good with VCDS?

I have a couple of questions. A good friend of mine has inherited a laptop with a genuine version of VCDS on (we have the receipt for lead and software ~£500) but it's an old version, 14.10.2.

First question, will this work ok on my 2013 passat?

Second question, is the licence linked to the machine its installed on? Or can we reinstall onto a newer machine that runs a version of windows that is less than 2 decades old?

The licence is with the cable, so you can just download the latest software from the Ross Tech website and install it on as many computers as you like.

What cable do you have? I imagine you'll need a HEX CAN or something like that for a 2013 Passat.

You only need the very latest cables for stuff from the last couple of years.

Newer cables are different re licensing but what you have will be fine, SW on as many machines as you like and use the cable on as many (compatible) cars as you like.
