eBay selling houses?

Has anyone else noticed that eBay have started sponsoring programs that deal with selling houses/doing them up etc?

I just wondered whether eBay had gone public on anything or whether I was just wide of the mark.

It'd be a great idea for them. They have the market penetration to get this kind of thing rolling. Their size could mean they're fees would be much lower.

What would the negatives be? Anyone?

Lots of things I see on ebay sell for more than you can buy them in the shops

Where do I start?

....err...how about "I have won your auction and I am very desirous to buy your house. My associate will send you a check for one million of your pounds. Please send half of this amount back to him...."


I shudder to think.

Alternatively you will e advertising your house to all the scammers and burglars in your area and further afield.

ebay need to concentrate on actually developing some customer service and integrity first.

True - I may be completely wrong about it. It just seemed a good avenue for them as a company (rather than from the point of view of their customers).

I would imagine though, that they wouldn't be able to use their current method to sell the houses. I would imagine that it'd have to have far stricter controls on bids and bidders.

Also I would have thought they would have to change the amount of time the auction ran for, I cant see you selling your house in 10 days

There seems to be a gulf between what they do and what they don't do, sometimes getting it right, but only sometimes.

I emailed/sent a question to the recent advertiser on Ebay of the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing for restoration. Asking questions about why there wasn't an indepth description, why listed as RHD when it was clearly LHD, why Batavia UK when Batavia is in the USA. Pointing out carelessness and suggesting there are too many scams on Ebay so could I have the chassis number to check records.

I got this email back from Ebay (after the item had been deleted, by Ebay I think)

But they should somehow have procedures in place to stop this from happening in the first place. I don't know what checks they use because I have never and will never buy anything off the site, or sell anything either. I have only signed up to question dodgy sales like this one and the previous Lamborghini Muira sale earlier this year which I asked Ebay to remove after sending them proof of the actual cars whereabouts and seller.

How is having your house listed on eBay any different from it being on right move?? It's all exposure.

People who don't use eBay make me smile. Scam adverts are easy to spot to the trained eye, i.e. if its to good to be true it probably is.

From my experience eBay do everything they can to make trading as fair as possible to eradicate rogue sellers/bidders. Too many restrictions would hinder the absolutely massive amount of successful transactions happening every moment of every day.
