Porsche Cayman 987.1 buying

I’m ready to pull the trigger on my first ‘sports car’. After reading a lot I’ve settled on a 987 Cayman 2.7 Gen1.

I’ve seen the below in autotrader and wondered what the spec was like. I will probably have a pre-purchase inspection on the car (minus bore scoring option).

I don’t know much about the Cayman but I had a 987.2 Boxster Spyder and a 996.1.
It looks nice, I like it.
Spec wise It has 17” wheels (maybe the norm on a 2.7?), no sports seats, sports chrono or PSE (sorts exhaust). Those tend to be the “desirable” options but spec is very personal, so it’s up to you really.

It doesn't have the most desirable spec but that doesn't make it a bad car, I think as long as it passes an inspection then go for it.

I agree with the spec. It’s pretty standard. The sports seats look great but I think less than 10% of the cars I’ve seen for sake have these. Wheels wise I think 18’s were std, but I could change these. Appreciate the reply.

I note the advert says it has adjustable suspension but PSM is not PASM. At least it will be cheaper to fit new shock absorbers without PASM. Heated seats, larger wheels and a sports steering wheel would have been nice.
Nice to see that money spent on it not too many miles ago. Recommend that you get the DME interrogated by a specialist to check that the mileage has not been clocked and that it has not been over revved.

Why not include a check for bore-scoring in the PPI? I would definitely do that.

Specs-wise, I don't think there's this one extra thing or other that a Cayman absolutely must have. It is a great sportscar right out of the box.

The 2.7 was the cheaper car so it's less usual to find cars with the amount of options sometimes seen on the 3.4 cars. That said, there's nothing they really need. Can't see any specific option really impacting the price or resale of it, and there's none that I'd say I need that on my car or I'm not buying. Lots of people say the "full leather" interior (dash) is a must have. Mine doesnt have it, I've been in 987 boxsters that do and it doesn't nothing for me. The interior of the 987 is what it is, it's not great but I don't think the leather enhances it that much. Everyone will have their views on that.

My 2.7 has optioned climate control, "rear park" (sensors), and heated seats. The latter two are quite handy but weren't part of the buying decision.

A previous owner added a Carnwahl GT exhaust (mod) which I've the receipt for 500 euros and by far makes the biggest difference to how much I enjoy it.

Great cars. Not fast in 2.7 guise by modern standards but held in gear in 2nd or 3rd at high revs on a sweeping, bending road it's a lovely thing. Feels like a merging of man and machine.

ETA - I wouldn't bother with a bore scope either. Not known to be a common 2.7 problem. If the inspection is happening anyway and it's not much more to have it scoped then fine but I wouldn't go out my way to get it done.
