It's about time I bought a new iPad, my 2013 iPad Air is really starting to show it's age.
Back then, I was at uni and needed the decent power that the top iPad at the time offered, and the Air was purchased to replace an original 1st generation iPad.
These days things are different. No longer am I using high memory consuming apps for 7 hours a day. It's mostly web browsing, emails, social media and I'd like to try using Zwift on an iPad. Currently I use Zwift on my MacBook as it runs very badly on the iPad. In all fairness I could probably get away with getting rid of the MacBook altogether and having one, decent spec iPad. However there's some things I just prefer to do on a laptop.
I have 3 options for a new iPad, which are as follows:
1. Buy the new iPad Air. This is kind of my preferred option at the minute but would involve waiting a bit longer, being on furlough I'm trying to keep spending low. But I'm also thinking this would be the better long-run option, as it has the best hardware of any iPad at the minute, so in theory wouldn't need a replacement for a while.
2. Buy the £329 iPad. More cost effective short term, and can be done much sooner. Would probably be fine for everything I want to do with it, but with the slightly older hardware I guess it'd need replacing much sooner.
3. Wait for the new lower cost iPad. I see rumors it will be here March/April, with an A13 chip, and hopefully be around the same £329 cost. Still not quite as future proof as the new Air, but seemingly enough for what I want to do with it.
What would PH do? Currently I'm leaning towards 1 or 3. I suppose 3 does throw up another option where the current £329 iPad drops in price? But then again, is the latest Air worth the £250 difference?
