Arcam Alpha 8 Amp and 8P Power Amp - what to do
Discussion
In the process of re-doing parts of the house, and I now have the difficult task of deciding what to do with my old amps. They haven't really been used much at all in the last 5-8 years, and I am not sure if I should try to sell them on or am I worth finding somewhere to use them in the house.
Admittedly, they are now old devices, but I remember when I got them how much i loved them. Called a few used dealers, who would offer £140 for the pair. Seems like they are basing it off ebay prices, and I might as well give ebay a go if I want that much. I can't help think they would be closer to £120 each at least. Unless I'm wearing rose tints.
What do you guys think - worth keeping and finding space? Or cut loss and move on? I fear that I won't end up using them, or will kill them by sticking them in a cold garage for duty there.

Thanks All. I don't think I will be using it anytime soon, so I guess I should really sell it and buy something if/when I need it. Will check out AV Forums etc and see what the feel is.
Many thanks.
PS: Alpha 10 was always on my wish list - never splurged on it. I hope it sounds as good as I imagined!
Many thanks.

I've been looking at power amps, incl Ebay and AV Forums, and there does seem to be a good supply of 10 year+ amps.
That might explain why you got the offers you did.
The new class D power amps from the likes of Nord and Audiophonics, based on Hypex and Purifi kits, seem to be pretty cheap and pretty good quality.
Big power good quality amps starting at £600-£700 ish... hard to argue against that really.
If it's any consolation of the Arcam power amps I've looked at recently, many seem quite worn with lettering rubbed off and scratches etc. So if yours are tidy and fresh they shoudl stand out.

Many thanks - maybe I am off kilter with the pricing indeed. That might explain why you got the offers you did.

Mine do look in relatively good form. Well cared for and no missing lettering etc. Im tempted to try ebay for the wider reach, as having reviewed AV forums, most people seem to be moving away/upgrading from this gear, so I fear it may be narrow/shallow pond to be fishing.
