what are the 0-60, 0-100 etc times for the various engine conversions that you can have done compared with various engine tune-ups. Surely a magazine has done this at some point, and if not, why not?

I'd be particularly keen to know the Honda engine conversion figures - I've also noted a Duratec 220 Elise - what in hell is that?

I think the answer is there is no such set of 100% accurate numbers mate.

The Honda's are pushing out around 200 ponies out of the box and 300 with a blower - bogie's yer man on that front.

The 220 Duratec is a modded Ford Duratec engine which is being developed by Geary from Eliseparts - search the SELOC forums for loads of info, discussion, results etc.

I think it's generally accepted that for K series work the DVA kits and the Turbo Technics ones are the best of the bunch, and that the better aftermarket solutions are the Honda and Audi 1.8T conversions.

You pays yer money, you takes yer choice

just get hold of Cartest software (about £15) and tn open up the Elise

do a search for dyno charts for the conversions.

Put the figures into cartest and view results - you can change tyres, gearing etc and run the simlulation again

thats about as near as you are going to get

For the Honda conversions its difficult to say exact figures as it depends on the individual car - S1 or S2 or Exige etc, weight and tyres. But a rough guesstimate would be:

220bhp Normally aspirated
0-60 in 4-4.5secs
0-100 in 10secs

300bhp supercharged
0-60 in 4 secs (less if you have semi slicks!)
0-100 in 8-8.5secs

compared to rough figures for std factory cars

120bhp Elise

0-60 in 6secs
0-100 in approx 18secs

135bhp Elise

0-60 in 5.5secs
0-100 in 16secs

160bhp Elise

0-60 in 5secs
0-100 in 14secs

190bhp Elise (not 111R which is similar to a 160bhp S1)
0-60 in 4.5 secs
0-100 in 11.5-12secs

TT230 Elise

0-60 in 4-4.5secs
0-100 in 10-11secs

you can figure out the rest...remember theres a difference for S1, S2 and 111R etc in weight - 740kg, 780-815Kg, and 875-930Kg for 111R ..and also gearing.

Going slightly off topic, but weight was mentioned so I thought I'd ask.
Any one got any sensible ideas on how to get a 111R sub 800kgs.

70Kg is a lot of weight to lose.

Starting with a base car with no options then maybe:

exhaust/manifold/cat pipe might save 10-15kg
CF seats - maybe save another 5Kg
lighter wheels - maybe another 10kg allround
ally belled discs - maybe another 2Kg
full CF bodywork - 20-30Kg maybe

..probably cheaper to add power than lose a lot weight to be honest

Had my S1 on the corner scales and with about 1/4 tank of petrol she tipped the scales at 676kg..... I love my S1 Not a lot I could do to reduce that though.... remove the stereo to get rid of 3-4KG though, but that's about it.

you sure about this???

that would make it the lightest S1 ever by some margin, unless you have already striped it to death, I suspect the scales are some way off...AFAIK, the lightest S1's were the very first, and they were the other side of 700Kg's

Corner weights were at my friend's race-shop used to prep a championship winning car so I'm guessing they're right.

My car's early-spec with the Ally bootlid, MMC brakes etc and also sports Technomagnesio Magnesium wheels along with lightweight seats.... the wheels and seats alone are supposed to make for a ~25kg weight saving.... take that into account and my car would be just over 700kg with normal trim... so shouldn't be too wrong

Yeah, I'm not sure what figures Lotus used... generally when people talk about weight its "curb weight" which means full fluids, no driver, no petrol.... for a S1 that's meant to be 675... allowing for that, my car should be about 685kg, then subtract the weight of the wheels and seats of my car and it works out pretty close to being on the money.
