Family estate 6k budget- audi a4/a6?
Discussion
Hello All,
I'm after an estate car with a budget of 6K. It can be petrol or diesel but would like 6 cyl engine if possible with a bit of power. So far, I have looked at the; Accord, Superb, BMW 3 series and the A4/A6. I started off wanting a 3 series however when comparing them with the Audi A4/A6 you seem to get far more value with the Audis.
I have owned Skodas and BMWs in the past so fancy a change but know nothing about Audis. What are peoples view on the A4 vs A6? Also what is the best engine/spec?
TIA!

For me it would be a 330d/335d but at 6k, its likely to be something with 100k+ miles.
Realistically you are going to get more for your money in terms of age/mileage picking a non German brand.
There is little other than leggy old German cars for that criteria. There is only a couple of Subaru Outback 3.0R in the Autotrader filter.
Taking out the bigger engine option, there is a 2017 VW Passat Estate 2.0TDi. it's also leggy with 145k, but it's £6495. It might have had an easy motorway life. You've got modern options like sat nav, Bluetooth and DAB. It'll be a better car to live with than a much older BMW or Audi.

Or something like an Insignia.

I really like that 5 series, just a bit too far for me to travel. What do you think of the 530d? There are a few for sale near me.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202011146...

I like the 530d but I'd always choose the 280/320 E class over it, they don't look as modern but they're a better car overall:320

I was looking at that 530i. Dealer wouldn’t take any less than £6.5k. I remember seeing It on eBay under a private seller for £5.7k a few months before it got listed through this dealer. It’s not a 59 plate car as the plate suggests. The car was built in 2007/08 IIRC. The iDrive in it is not the CIC variant.
I love the fact he emphasised to me that he had lots of people interested in it, yet 6 weeks after it being up for sale, it’s still there. A 6 cylinder petrol of the E61, is a bit of a unicorn, so for it not be snapped up suggests (to me) something is up with it.

I had a look at this 530d on Sunday, like you dealer said loads of interest in car etc. Told me its had 13,000 views on autotrader (still not sold). It’s not a 59 plate car as the plate suggests. The car was built in 2007/08 IIRC. The iDrive in it is not the CIC variant.

Dealer would take £6600 for it but wouldn't give me a test drive so walked. For the same money I can get into f10 albeit with the lesser 2 litre engine. This is what I'm going to do i think.

you'll miss the 6 cylinder. F11 is a better built car than the E61, more up to date of course. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101127...

I'm not sure if these 4 cylinder's suffer from timing chain issues. Something to look at perhaps?
I ended up going for a E91 335i instead of a E61 530i. Very happy with my choice. 6 cylinder makes a way better noise than a 4(same applies for diesel, although still not as good as a petrol
) The split tailgate on the E91 is great... use it more than opening boot (same would apply for the F11). Great handling on them, I thought with being an estate, it may be a bit noisier, but nope, it's all good. Boot is big enough for my needs too.
My RC thread, hoping to get some small cosmetic mods done soon. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Wow, car looks awesome... I would buy that in a heartbeat if I could find one locally! I'm not sure if these 4 cylinder's suffer from timing chain issues. Something to look at perhaps?

Thanks very much. Had a 530i sent to me today. Manual variant. So very much a unicorn. It’s on eBay. Based in Newcastle.
