Hi to all,
In the next couple of weeks I will be ready to paint my Geep in a nice bright shade of yellow.
What experiences, good or bad have people had painting the gell coat.
What type of paint do you recommend.
Hand paint or spray paint, I dont mind which I use.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Take a look at a thread entitled "Paint" started by me there is a pretty lively discussion on pros and cons.

Basically if your budget is large go for a 2pack West Systems Epoxy respray.
Other end of the scale is household gloss handpaint.
I went budget midway with some discounted boat paint formulated for fibreglass boats.

Dont listen to the gay red fraternity
my bright yellow peril was treated to a good rub down, two coats west epoxy two pack, rubbed down each time and a nice finish in two pack bright yellow.

G'day Trialboy.....marvellous how the conversation reaches its natural level after a while lol. Damn good question you asked though, especially as I'm going to do the same to mine.....I'll try and dig some details out for you and 'mail them to you....and before you start worrying about this act of friendship, I do have a RED Jeep at the mo, but I don't qualify for the 'Gay' bit according to the decription in my Collins dictionary, despite volunteering to dress up as the Red Indian a la Village People style at the next Jago meet's fancy dress.

Jago red from 70s, 80s & 90s = all of those silver cars that non Jago drivers have nowadays, just a common ocurring/ popular/ fashionable when built colour.
To read anything else into it re testosterone levels, dodgey lifestyles, MP for Wimbledon Common or Hampstead Heath toilet attendant or even running around in lederhosen in one's spare time is frankly a bit un British, and after all this is Little Britain!!
As I look out into my garden in the fadinglight at the Union Jack Jago (pic on Yahoo forum!!) I wonder what kind of person does that to his car???

Although I previously said I'd 'mail you direct, I thought by putting the following it may help someone else out as well.
Jon's already refered to his string 'Paint' that's on page 5 of the Forum (dated Monday 30th May)....the other one I was thinking of; is on Page 12 Fibreglass Sraying/Prep work (dated 18th Dec 2004)
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replys.
My 3 year old daughter is a big Barbie fan and wants me to paint it pink just like the Barbie Geep. I think I have managed to win that discussion but if it was pink would that make me the ultimate "gay" jago owner & yes my every day car is silver!
I will investigate the marine paint route and probably hand paint as it will be used in competition throughout the winter and repairs to damage will be easier if I can touch in by hand.
Has anyone else hand painted with tidy results?
If yes what paint did you use.
Thanks,
Steve. (Trialboy)

Have a chat with 'Ian A' you'll find him somewhere on here and click onto his profile to 'mail him. Ian's gone down the marine paint and brush route I believe and he's been very helpful to me in the past. Paint your Jeep pink Steve and you'll get friends you never thought possible lol........ I'm still unsure whether to go down the Red route or P**s Yellowy/Green
whatever happens....welcome to the Gayjo Owners Club!!

I like to think that being the only man in my house (apart from the dog!) that I'm in touch with my feminine side and that I would be completely comfortable driving a Pink Geep.

Also Red is only a shade away from Pink!!

So it's a tin of red and and tin of white marine paint, mixed to the appropiate shade of Barbie Pink....do't let the good DrSeg pursuade you to have lime green wheels though lol....

Theres a good reason NOT to paint it Pink.
