I have ordered a new Porsche but I have been informed by the dealer that Porsche are planning to increase prices in March and that I will be liable to pay the increased price and not the price stated on my order form. They cannot tell me what the increased price will be. I would have thought that a signed order form would lock the price at the current rate but apparently not. Has anyone else been told similar?

It’s in the contract.

It's not that clear in mine from last year. In the terms and conditions, reference is only made to the current price. However, in a section just after my spec details entitled "Important information" it says:

"Porsche reserves the right to alter specification, delivery package, lead times, pricing and other product information without prior notice."

So I guess that means they can change the price.

Loads of previous threads on this - conclusion is generally you pay the price at time of delivery not the price at time of committing.

yes

Probably linked to how much the OPC and Porsche GB have to pay the mothership for the car.

IIt’s the week it leaves the factory gates rather than the time you take delivery that is actually key. Price rises are normally around May IIRC.

I’ve got a 718 on order. I can’t see anything in my contract that states Porsche reserves the right to alter the price. My car is due next month. Is this increase definitely happening in March?

Is this unique to Porsche or do others do it?

Only asking out of interest - I've only ever bought 3 brand new cars (none Porsche), 2 of which were already made and in stock, the other (a VW Golf) was specced by me but nothing was ever mentioned about any possible price increase - all prices were on the paperwork and signed for as such.

Taking it to extremes could Porsche actually then charge anything they wanted to on delivery? Where would the buyer stand contractually? Decline to pay and lose deposit? Could the customer have legal action taken against them for failing to complete?

I doubt I'm alone in thinking an agreed purchase price is exactly that.

My guess is that if the price changes this is a change to the contract, so the buyer could either:

a) receive a refund of any monies paid and walk away as the current contract is now null and void
or
b) pay the increased price after signing a new purchase contract

Your car will need to be in the docks in the U.K. before the date of price increase

Interesting. My car is due at the centre on 5.3.21
I haven’t seen or signed any contract, but I do have an MS teams meeting with them tomorrow. It’s a week since I asked for an up to date OTR price, but I have received no response (only an invitation to have ceramic coating!!)

It’s the time it leaves the factory gates not UK ports. Price increase is global so if they did it on date it hit the destination port would clearly be very different for countries in North/South America or Asia compared versus the UK...or indeed in Europe where cars are presumably transported by rail and never see a port.

On previous cars I've ordered and I've asked the question, I have been told its the date I confirmed my final spec for lockdown date/build. At this point the car is committed to be manufactured, therefore agreed, no price increase, also no refund on deposit.

However,

This might not be the legal definition, this might just be the dealer (Sytner) confirming to me that they will not increase the price.

I thought this is reasonable and never had a problem.

I have a Spyder on order at the moment, not lockdowned on final yet, so will view the new prices as and when/if it happens.

You’ll have signed an order form surely?

I've had it with Lamborghini before, not informed prior but when it came to collection it had increased from what was agreed. Told them to foxtrot Oscar and they could either absorb it or cancel it and they did the former. I am petty with those kind of things though.

Nope, just paid 5K. Following that I received a letter with a paperweight and an email invitation to the PEC. Final spec locked down via email in early Jan.

I don't think it's petty at all. I wouldn't accept any price increase on what was agreed no matter how much I was spending. What do they hope to achieve by that? Do people actually just roll over and pay it? All seems like a poor way to do business especially when they can't tell you what the increase may be.

I am interested to know their legal standpoint. I can imagine they only get away with any increase with people buying limited models who don't want to lose them.

If you are financing and therefore they are making £1000’s over the original price, tell the dealer to absorb the increase or you will decline the car. They will rollover I’m sure.

Only no refund on the deposit if you have signed the order on site.
Otherwise distance selling regulations apply and you can cancel up to 14 days after taking the car.
