I've always been an android phone owner and have never owned by an iPhone, so please, bear with me.

I have a Pioneer SPH DA02 App Radio in my car. In order to use any apps on it, I need an iPhone 4 or 4s running on iOS7, which are understandably hard to find and I've been looking for a while.
A friend has now kindly given me one which belonged to his late wife, who passed on a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately it's linked to her iTunes account and the user name on her account no longer exists.
This means that I can't reset it to factory settings and put any apps or music on it.
Google suggests that the only way forward is to pay £30 or so to download software such as DrFone to overcome this problem, but the reviews of some of the Google suggested software aren't that brilliant.
I'm thinking of taking it to one of those second hand phone shops to see if they can help, but don't know what to expect or what's reasonable to have to pay.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I would've thought the cheapest option that has a better chance of working would be just to get another iPhone 4. £10-20 seems to be the going rate.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that those for sale have usually been upgraded to a later version of iOS and I need one with iOS 7.

There are at least two on Ebay now on iOS 7, both under £20

I'm boggle-eyed with looking at eBay listings and reading endless drivel from lady owners in a smoke and pet free home. I've PM's a few to find out the iOS version and still not found one.
You're obviously a better eBay searcher than me. Any chance of a link to one?

Cheers, I've bought that one. I didn't realise that 7-1-2 was the same as iOS 7.
Fingers crossed that it works.

Does it it have find my iPhone (activation lock) on or just that you can’t add apps? If the latter you should be able to restore it with iTunes. According to some searches ios7 is the last for the 4 so it won’t go higher than that when restored.

Unfortunately, the one I was gifted has 'Find my phone' activated and so can't be reset using iTunes.

If it doesn't work for whatever reason, there are ways of using newer iPhones with that headunit

The phone arrived that v8covin pointed me to.
After loads of fannying about creating an apple ID and an iTunes account, I loaded the Pioneer Appradio app on it and some music.
The good news - the phone now communicates with head unit and I can select and play music from the phone using the head unit touch screen, which is great.
The bad news. I had hoped to install a Navigation app such as Waze, which I'd read great things about. But Waze apparently needs iOS9 or above to operate FFS!

So, does anyone know of a nav app that will run on IOS7?

I know you don't want to hear it but it would seem that the limiting factor here is the head unit - most apps won't work on older versions of iOS so you will be forever going round in circles trying to get to iPhone/App/head unit compatibility nirvana.

Dare I suggest a newer head unit...?

I think I'll stick with it. The radio is good. The Bluetooth phone interface works really well. The screen resolution for the reversing camera is excellent and I can now access a music collection on my 'vintage' iPhone.
To get the updated version of the same headunit would be £300ish. I don't need integrated nav that much.

The phone should have the Maps app built in as standard
