Forbes.com reporting this from Qatar Airways.
Passengers must now wear both mask and shield “at all times”
Business class passengers are exempted from wearing both shields and mask onboard. Unless they choose to.
Multiple face covering is only compulsory for economy class travelers.

Can’t have the great unwashed infecting the elite - that’s not part of the plan

I’m guessing because in business class and above passengers can social distance, where they can’t in cattle class.

That would be the somewhat obvious answer.

Business class even seated still often leaves you within 1-2m of the next passenger though

Unless they have removed seats and redused capacity

That would be an utterly grim experience on a long haul flight. There will be constant queues for the toilets as they will be occupied by people scoffing crisis and vodka miniatures 😂

Perhaps a ploy to sell more business class seats?

Upgrade from economy to business + £1750 per person quarantine fee + a few hundred per person for COVID tests and you'll soon need to take out a second mortgage to go on holiday. Still, just think of the reduction in CO2 emissions when nobody is flying any more ...

It would definitely be a solid reason to consider stumping up the extra.

Perhaps this is what may make airlines think twice about putting people in airborne battery farms to eek out a few extra quid. We can but hope.

To be fair, it's not stopped people from buying the tickets and in the last 10 or so years, has meant almost anyone in the developed world can fly anywhere on the planet. Even if it is in discomfort!

Is that a new thing?
I think they’ve been doing it a while.

Yes and more than likely a very poor one, its a very confined space 2 meters even 3-4m probably make very little difference. I wait to see the particle flow simulations that defend this policy.

Also face shield are a pointless nonsense and I cant believe its not been made clear to public, unless someone is spitting in your face they do ball all. Lucky socks would be just as useful but don't give them ideas.

Yes indeed. But is that a good thing? Should flying be this cheap?

I've never really figured out Qatar Airways.

They are just a stuffy Emirates without any fun factor.

Not sure why anyone would choose them over others to begin with.
