Shoes on stairs

I'm just watching a TV programme about Shannon Matthews and have been reminded of putting shoes on stairs. Now that I'm in my 50s I live on my own (there's a surprise) but when I was young we always had shoes lined up on the stairs. Is that usual? Or was that usual years ago? Though I come from SE London, my mum was from Manchester; does that make a difference?

Only thing on our stairs are items Mrs Puggit puts on there for collection and removal upstairs. Normally they sit on the stairs for a few days before we get nagged to move them.

Doesn't happen in my house, but I know people that do keep shoes there.

Never even dreamed of owning a pair of clogs, the best gift I ever got was a pair of soles made out of cardboard and some string.

In our house 50% of our ground floor is hard floors (hall, dining room, kitchen, bathroom)

The carpeted areas are never walked on in shoes. The laminate areas are fine if the wife doesn't notice! She hates anyone walking past the door mat in shoes.

No shoes on stairs - but shoes are in the drying area part of the kitchen. Don't have a utility room, but this would be the drying area equivalent. Not near the cooking area - in case anyone thinks I've got shoes hidden in the larder

You corral your girlfriend into a particular and quite utilitarian sounding part of the house? Hoo boy..... shoes on stairs, warm beer, gravy on everything..... Oh how The Empire has crumbled......

We have a no shoe policy around the house. We have carpets upstairs and laminate downstairs, but it's still a rule that no-on walks through the house in shoes. All shoes are taken off in the hallway and with 2 daughters and the Mrs that does mean 900 pairs of shoes each in the hallway, bedrooms and stairs. The crazy thing is that I sometimes leave my wet shoes on the doormat, but get moaned at because they are in the way. We have about half a dozen rubber shoe storage mats but there's no room.

My wife lines hers up in the hall under the radiator, can be six pairs there, it drive me insane as it is in front of a cupboard helpfully known as a "Shoe Cupboard". Apparently they are airing or drying, despite not being wet by and large, if I move them I get moaned at as apparently however carefully and diligently I put them in the cupboard they have been thrown in.

So I just bang then in anyway.

We are the same. Evidently the wife didn't growing up as when we first lived together her Dad turns up and traipsed dog st up the stairs. Either that or he is a tt.

Same here. Except yesterday Mrs DS had left some shoes about 3/4 up our extremely steep, high stairs. I fell over them. I fell down the stairs.

Always take them off and put them in the cupboard in the porch,
even moreso now weve new carpet down
