Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice please.

About 3 months ago I purchased some Falken FK510 tyres after a recommendation on a topic from here for my 630i.
Whilst I've probably done about 500 miles in total on them and I have no complaints in terms of their performance, I think I have made a mistake.

This is tyre snobbery to the highest extent I feel but every time I wash the car, I feel the tyres lets the car down with the Falken branding. I wish now I went with my gut and gone for a premium brand.

So I am contemplating buying a new set of tyres and selling the Falkens (and obviously, will get nowhere near what I paid for them) to offset some of the cost.

Am I mad for doing this? Appreciate your guys thoughts please.

Cheers.

If you'd said there were concerns re their performance, fair enough.

If the change is just 'because Falken'...yes, mad imvho.

The performance of the tyres is good, but you don't like the name?

May as well prise the BMW badge off and replace it with a Ferrari one whilst you're at it wink.

Stop being silly. If you're happy with how the tyres drive, that's all that matters.

Now, if you find they don't last as well as a premium tyre of equivalent performance, that's a good rationale for a different choice next time, but just stick with them for now.

To answer seriously, yes I think it's remarkably silly to replace the tyres just because you don't like the name. However, just out of curiosity, what would you be replacing them with? The FK510s featured in tyre-reviews' Ultra High Performance summer tyre test in 2019 and, along with the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti, were considered best of the rest. So unless you're going to replace them with the Michelin PS4S, Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport, or Conti Sport Contact 6, you're probably going to be downgrading your tyres.

i need plenty of grip on my uprated 335i and was informed from here that Michelin Ps4's was the ultimate allrounder and yes they are brilliant, but they are 200 quid each but if I could buy chavtastic tyre for half the price that guaranteed the same grip... who gives a f**k what brand they are. if you think they are good then stick with them

Keep the Falkens and enjoy your car. Good tyres.
When they wear out, stick some PS4S on - brilliant tyres.

Worrying about a badge/label after the fact is daft.

Falken (and Kumho) make some excellent tyres; if they perform as you'd like, and for teh price you've paid - changing them for a label alone is even-more-than daft.

I've put considerably over 150K miles on these two brands alone on previous cars; no complaints whatsoever, and excellent vfm.

ETA: simple worked example:

heck - I currently run a set of Nankang 'racing' tyres on my BEC: NSR2s, the first set bought to scrub for amusement - and they are actually hilariously good so I bought more. But no they're not labelled 'Yokohama Ao48': should I change them?

NO - the Nankangs are a fraction of the price, /really/ damn-nearly as good for my uses, and - critically - E-marked (which A048s are no longer. sob)

This, times lots.

They’re pretty good tyres, it’s not like you’ve fitted Ling Yongs or Landsail’s.

I have the Falken FK510 on my Zed

They are very good tyres. Particularly on wet and greasy roads

They are a Japanese brand that specialise in UHP tyres and motorsport

I think they have a fair racing/sporting pedigree

Yes, that should lift a weight off his shoulders. They are not Chinese, they are Japanese.

Take a look at tyrereviews.com; Falken are classified as a mid-range tyre along with Uniroyal, Vredstein, Yokohama, Avon, Firestone and Toyo all of which are recognised brands.

They’re also OEM tyres for various models from VW, Audi, Toyota amongst others.

I’d be happy with Falken on my 435i, they’re a decent tyre and a decent make.

Yes, you're mad.

Falken is a sub brand of Goodyear / Dunlop under Sumitomo rubber.
Just tell yourself whatever it says on the sidewall, the tech in the tyre is based on premium brand leaning.

Just drive it more, wear them out and put something else on next year..

The real problem isn't the branding on the tyres - its the badge on the car. It doesn't end with x50i

Poverty spec engine deserves poverty spec tyres. (J/K btw)

They're good tyres; get good real world reviews and do a great job...

Stick with them and enjoy being part of the crowd that doesn't follow everyone else onto the PS4s etc biggrin
