Apologies if this is a topic that's been done to death, I have some (formerly) polished rocker covers that have succombed to corrosion, I thought perhaps some autosol would do it but although it's polished them up lovely, the patchy blotches are still there...

Is there a magic product that works or is it a case of hours spent polishing it with various compounds etc?

Appreciate any suggestions, my first foray into the 'clean' side of PH hehe

Yep. You will need to sand that back to get an even finish & remove any deeper corrosion/pitting then gradually work through the grades, on something like a rocker cover stick to sanding in straight lines so as not to create a crisscross effect.

You may even need to start with less than 500 grit, as low as 160. Then you ought to be able to sand by hand up to 2500/3000 grit depending on how close to mirror finish you want. As its a relatively flat surface you can finish with a DA/buffer using the autosol.

here is a quick example of some BBS lips I was working on the other day, at this stage this is all sanding and a quick coat of autosol by hand.

You may get it. ABIT better with a course cutting compound but really needs sanding right back with course sand paper then work your way up like the poster above has said
