...there’s something about the way that article’s worded that makes it seem like a pr media plant by Hermes. Either way, I’m guessing we’re not getting the whole story.

That is unbelievable. You would have to be a sociopath to ignore someone who's fallen in freezing conditions and can't get up unaided.

so here’s a short video clip that I suspect removes necessary context.

https://youtu.be/aldgsgk6h68

It’s entirely possible this guy is a heartless bd who should be lambasted, but it definitely also possible that he spoke with her for a while before deciding she had mental health issues and that there was nothing he can reasonably do so he exited stage left. Either way I think we need more context before piling on.

At the very least if you were incapable of lifting her, or didn't feel comfortable you could have got some help - by knocking on a neighbours door or calling the emergency services.

I'm putting myself in that situation - and if I thought she was drunk or got a dodgy vibe I'd maybe not be that keen to lifting women up and taking her into a house alone. I'd almost certainly do it - but the risk for him if is she gets hurt or makes an allegation is something people should think about (say she has a broken hip and he makes it worst). But I'd never just leave someone. I pull over at night if I see a car broken down/crashed and ask if they need help. - so leaving an old women on the floor with no help wouldn't happen.

That being said... Why have they cropped the video? If you are going to condemn the man at least show him arriving and leaving. Maybe he did offer to call for help and we just don't know... If he is just a scumbag then shame on him but I won't condemn him yet.

That is a huge leap, no idea where you got that from.

I drove a minicab in London in the 80s. The amount of times I took pissed women home and led/carried them into their houses and stuck them on their sofas.

Not sure I'd do that nowadays.

I’m giving an arbitrary possibility - my point is this video and story has not been presented in a transparent manner, and as such it might not be giving all the necessary context.

(Is it a huge leap to try to think of a possibility other than the obvious conclusion? Or is it desirable critical thinking?)

Odd how the neighbours have a camera giving a very clear shot of someone else's property and not that great a coverage of their own.

The video has been zoomed in to show the incident, if you scroll down the Daily Mail page to the videos bit you can see a thumbnail showing the real coverage area.

The camera is pointing into the street but due to being wide angle it covers the neighbour too.

Some comments on that news report are crazy. Without knowing all facts and getting half a story from a paper wanting to push viewers is hardly cause for a witch hunt.

A previous job I worked for, doing anything more than phoning an ambulance would have got me the sack, so I fully understand his reservations.

Covid rules Ffs!

Rendering aid especially first/emergency aid is completely exempt from any covid restrictions.

It's a doorbell camera. It's pointing where someone would stand if they were at the door. They have a very wide angle so will capture alot of the background.

Nobody made the postman leave the neighbour on the floor so it's not some sort of set up.

Depends how much Covid awareness training the Letter delivery technician has received. Imagine the outrage if he’d assisted her and she caught Covid.

i can play the devils advocate/look for the contrary PoV to a fault, but I'm really struggling to think what might pardon his (lack of) actions on this one.
