Prepare for take off!
Discussion
Ok so it appears that I am not the only one who starts to get a bit nervous when in the Grifter over about 140. It feels like it is going to take off!! - especially if you are on a slighty uneven road.
Has anyone done anything that has kept the car a bit more planted?
Or should I just get a pilots licensce and keep the right foot down?
Thanks

It has been stated here on PH (I think) that the spoiler/splitter improves high speed stability, which I suppose in theory it could do as it must reduce or at the least slow down the air flow under the car.
I normally have one fitted (but not a the moment) and it does feel a bit better, though I have never been up at really high speed to compare the effect.
Cheers,
Simon.

Ha...that reminds me...the guy I bought my Griff from..
..a wonderful chap called Adrian...told me he had a thing for chopper bikes..(you know..the ones with gear sticks/castrators)...he had put an advert in the local paper...and he just couldn’t refuse people bringing these choppers to his door...he ended up buying twelve...all stored in his loft....absolute nutter..
.....as far as 140 goes.....I had it at 165 the other night....quite scary....esp. as the road bends a little..
.....I would say weight plays an important factor!

'Remember the old movie about breaking the sound barrier? As the speed approached Mach 1 the aircraft started to shake and so the pilot backed off....'
Yes, and the theory was that at such high speeds, the controls became reversed... ergo, if you fancy turning left when you want to go right... you're braver than me!
There's a French Griff that does much racing/trackdays etc and has neat (IMO) little winglets built into the front corners (if you can say that a Griff has corners, but you know what I mean). It was in Sprint about a year ago.

My experience with the V8S is that suspension settings and tyre pressure makes a *huge* difference, there should be no need to resort to drastic aerodynamic mods. My V8S used to get quite scary over about 130, now it's rock solid up to 160+ even with cornering, braking etc. But in terms of aerodynamics, one thing that is worth checking is that the front isn't too high relative to the back, even an inch difference is quite noticeable at high speed.
Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

140 mph on an oneven road ??
get new dampers (Nitrons or, in Holland, special Konis') and have the car set up properly by a specialist.
car is (quite)stable right up to top speed

I have a pilots licence and the Griff still scares me over 140.
Agree with Pete Humphries on this one.
As long as the suspension components are in good nick & properly set up & you have good tyres at the right pressures, the car should be stable.
Mine is, even completely flat out (test track m'lud ).
Before a suspension refurb it used to wander all over the place >140.

With the roof on, in my case, its so much quicker. I would say from 60 onwards. My highest top is most certainly roof on and yes you have to hang on, but then again drive a little quick on a "B" road and you have to hang on, i love it. Just got back from 1.5k miles driving a 36ft Winnie in the "states" that has to be the most demanding drive ever and it would do 85mph, then again it had a V10 Vortex.Much the same as a sailing yacht and again i loved the chalenge.
