Hey all
Bit of backstory first. I’ve had 4 civics in total and just come from a fn2. I’ve also had fiesta st mk 6 & 7.5. But thought I was due a upgrade as I have a little one on the way! The fn2 was seriously long in the tooth and only 3 door I didn’t need any further reasons!
I’ve been deliberating for the last few months on what to get. Unfortunately due to covid i couldn’t test drive anything, but was close to buying a 135i, with other contenders been the golf r or Leon 290. To be honest I was put off with the civic initially been fwd with 300bhp, but the more I looked at them, the more they grew on me! There is only 2500 and roughy 380 polish metal in the UK so it quite appealed to me that there’s some exclusivity with the car. Anyway after probably 3 weeks of looking on autotrader 4 times a day this one popped up close by at sytner bmw and I had to have it! They sorted me a great deal out and customer service is exceptional! Anyway onto the car....
After never actually seeing one in the flesh, wow they look great. So aggressive on yeh styling, the arches are flared, big brembo calipers sitting behind the 19inch alloys! Interior is also a bit improvement, there’s a nice touch screen with works well. It’s the gt model so decent features like reversing cam, auto headlights, wipers etc you get it.
Upon starting, (keyless which is the only downside) it gives a nice burble! Driving away from the garage, I notice how the ride quality is very nice. Firm indeed, but well damped and much less crash than the fn2. Throttle response could be improved and there is a little turbo lag! No vtec crossover, but it pulls very strong from low down and has lots of usable power. I’m incredibly impressed with the Traction the lsd offers. Throw it into a bend and you can feel the lsd working it’s magic. It no longer just pushes on the front as you accelerate like the fn2. Power wise it’s excellent and you can soon find yourself upto the National speed limit very quickly!
Heaps of fun! I’ve done around 200 miles since yesterday, essential trip to ikea via some back roads home! Absolutely loving it and although the fk2 was a test bed for the fk8 it feels amazing.
The car is totally standard and appears to have been very well looked after with 2 owners! It’ll be interesting to see the residuals in a few years with them been fairly rare. It looks like they have leveled off in terms of depreciation, but obviously covid hasn’t helped!
Anyway no plans to modify, although it seems a stage 1 map will take them to the 370bhp Mark. Crazy really!
I’ll stop waffling now, and get some pics up

Lovely seats although the bolsters are wearing already! Need some seat covers for the odd occasion.

It brakes very well with excellent feel through the pedal!
The instrument cluster is very cool, with g force, boost, all temps, 0-60, 1/4 mile timer!
I’ll be doing another run out tomorrow to the garage as the battery let me down! Luckily as friend was near with a battery pack! Not ideal on the way home from the garage! Anyway sytner have been great and called me this morning, off to a garage to get it sorted and they will cover the costs!
That’s it for now, I’ll update again when I do some test on the timers and get it out in some dry weather!

So went into town to get a new battery fitted. Turns out the battery was shot but also why it was displaying a stop start error! All sorted now, and on a steady trip into town here’s what I averaged....

Thought that was very respectable for 300 plus hp!
Also, I must say the gear change is absolutely phenomenal, it’s beautifully weighted, direct and has no play. Honda really nailed it, and made me think how doomed we are when we all go too ice!
I did say I’d leave standard, but I would like some rear spacers as the wheels are quite sunken into the arches. I might get some mudflaps to protect the rear arches, and I’ve got some 3m tape to go on the sills.
That’s it for now, I’ll probably go out at the weekend and do some 0-60, 1/4 mile times and see if I get make use of the timers.

Hi mate, nice car, I have a Milano FK2, the grey looks really nice!
Best features of the car is the handling and yes the gearbox is super smooth.. can feel a little notchy on cold mornings but once the cars warmed up it’s really nice.
For 300+Bhp it’s reasonable on fuel.. I used mine as a daily for last 18months before I bought a diesel as the Type R is just wasted trudging up and down motorways all day.
Word of advice, get the rear arches PPF’d or you will be buying new ones in 6 months time (£120 each painted) because the front track is wider than the rear it flicks stones up and chips them..
Good luck with the timers, I got excited when I saw them too but you have to manually start and finish them which is a bit of a cop out from Honda tbh as they could’ve made it much better..
Best thing to do is find a twisty B road and watch all the other cars behind fade away as you briskly corner flat. Also find a nice tight corner and boot it mid corner, the diff is quite incredible just grips and goes..
Enjoy fella!

Could definitely be tempted by one of these, much better looking than the FK8 IMO
Yup, the fk8s are growing on me, but the rear still looks a bit dodgey IMO, if the looks were as good I would of been tempted, just didn’t want to spend more on something I thought was uglier! They seem a lot bigger car too5mileofdeath said:

Yup, I have seen aftermarket short throw and bush kit, apparently makes it less notchy when cold and also a even better throw, may be tempted by that in the future!Best features of the car is the handling and yes the gearbox is super smooth.. can feel a little notchy on cold mornings but once the cars warmed up it’s really nice.

I’ve just ordered some clear film for the arches, however I haven’t got a clue how that’s going to end haha, I think when I get the funds built up I’ll get them ppf’d, as it is a big bear of mine, my fn2 suffered horrendously with it too, though did have 116k on the clock.
Regarding the timers, I had a small play, if you switch into r mode, and hold source button for a few seconds, it counts you in on the revs counters, a bit gimmicky, and not incredibly accurate mind.
I’ve already been very impressed with the diff but can’t wait until summer on a smooth road where I can fully enjoy r mode.
Thanks for your words, just been reading through your thread, great choice of cars you have there

Just for balance on the rear arches, I didn't even know it was a thing. Think I did circa 30k miles in mine and had no stone chips, used all years round, plenty of track days including Spa in the snow when the had to grit the track!
Honda made the gear change to replicate the original NSX, not sure I'd be messing around with that. One thing I did notice was the peddles were quite small and it was easy to catch the end of your shoe on the plastic dashboard (I've only size 8s!) and when the box was cold it didn't baulk if you took the time to be precise.

That’s good to hear. They are actually in really good nick at the moment, and don’t think they have been sprayed too. I probably will get them protected anyway just in case...Honda made the gear change to replicate the original NSX, not sure I'd be messing around with that. I haven’t missed/crunched any gears while cold, I tend to be quite sympathetic on cars so as much as I like to give them a hammering I try not too rush the box too much and let everything warm up before I give it some.
