Has anyone heard anything recently regarding the next gen Cayman/Boxster?
We’ve had the GT4 and GT4RS is coming soon so I’d assume the next gen 718 soon after.
The most recent online gossip I can find is over 12 months old and appears to know little real information as 50% says “definitely will be electric” and the other 50% says “definitely not electric”. I was reading some ‘New Cars for 2021’ magazine articles earlier, not one mentioned a new 718.
It’s odd there seems to be zero info, as the Macan (facelifted in 2019 compared to the 718 arriving in 2016) already appears to have definitive info available regarding a new model arriving in 2022.

On the basis of no development mule sightings, would suggest new model is not imminent.
There has been talk of a further facelift of the existing chassis to buy a year or two until the electric sports car arrived. From an outsider perspective. It all seems rather fluid.
Already a replacement is very late in the context of the usual product cycle, but seems that planning is especially hard right now. Feels like Porsche is kicking the can down the road while it waits for battery tech to take a big enough step to make a sports car with decent range and tolerable mass possible. But time will tell.

Makes me laugh when people slag Lotus off and yet new 718 Boxsters/Caymans are based on a 10 year old design.
981 was "all new" and there's nothing unusual about a manufacturer using the same basic structure through a facelift, i.e. 718.Corvette C5 was "all new" and the C6 that followed was fundamentally the same car. C7 was "all new" again after some 15 years of the C5/C6 combo.
On the other hand 25+ years broadly unchanged is laughable. In fact it's more than a decade since immediate replacement of Elise was promised!

well, it has developed, albeit not greatly. it lacks development in infotainment and comfort. strangely though, still easily the best driver's car for a B road. suspect you know it too

Lacks development in infotainment? What more do you need it to do? Does all that anyone needs now it has Apple car play.strangely though, still easily the best driver's car for a B road. suspect you know it too

Lacks development in comfort? In what way is it uncomfortable? It’s remarkably comfortable for a sports car.

i was just replying to Rocky, who has a downer on Lotus now he can't fit in one. i can happily drive to the Alps each year, and though it's certainly no GT car, i'm happy.Lacks development in comfort? In what way is it uncomfortable? It’s remarkably comfortable for a sports car.
my next Elise will hopefully have no head unit, Alpine or otherwise.
