anyone ever changed one?
i did one on a mk 4 'tina years ago and it was a pig after vibration wise
doing geep tomorrow so any advice accepted
rear joint cost me 70 quid when i first got it!!!!
but they did cut prop, fit new removable joint "lugs" and a removable joint spline so not stupid price just could do without spending another 70 at moment so 12 quid staked joint i have i will try to fit incidentally staked joints are NOT same size as any circliped ones and staked ones have a little nipple protrusion on outside cebtre of "cups"
weirdly [to me] walls of uj cups are thinner rollers i think are thinner but roller runners where cups fit on + of uj are bigger than removeable uj's old stock uj box actually said "staked ford uj" less than a mm dif in the outer cup dimentions if you are buying off net or at a show etc staked ones dont come with circlips either and have a telltale nipple in outer cebtre of cup
i have several circlip type uj's if anyone needs them
and 2 big transit type ujs
plus a bucket full of circlips for uj's
put a post on here if any are of use or call me - number in transmissions
[after pub ramble over now]

took prop off geep cups had started to break up was only making a very slight ping noise too
hammered out 2 knackared u/j cups [which flattens staking adequetly] X of the uj worn away bugger remove other 2 uj cups fit all new uj and stake in with dot punch
was a slightly modified u/j that fitted flush with the edge of u/j mountings so they seemed to automatically centralise
took for a spin and no discernable vibration so seems a job well done [I HOPE]

The main problem with staked U/J's over circlipped ones is that you are limited to how often they can be replaced as you are using the yoke edge metal to make the stakes. On average the safe number of changes (if I can remember correctly )is three times then it is a case of not enough material to safely keep the joints in the yoke. Thats why if I have a shaft that needs new U/J's and it is a staked type I will get a new shaft made with circlip joints and usually demand that they are ones with grease nipples on so they can be refreshed regularly.

i agree chris
but this cost me 12 quid
the rear of geep prop cut and replaced with new flange and prop end to take circlip u/j's over 70 quid
makes economic sence to me
