Anyone else been hit by this?

I've been getting into UK hip hop for a while, one of the artists I really like is Fliptrix. There's a fair amount of spiritual 'wibble' in his tracks, but mostly harmless philosophical and astroplaning type stuff.

Today however I listened to "Problem, Reaction, Solution" and it's clear that he's a full-on simpleton, talking about 5G, Bill Gates, vaccines being 'toxins' and Covid 19 being a fake and a 'scamdemic'. Proper David Icke tier ste.

It's a shame because even though I love the production on the track (by Illinformed) I can't now bring myself to listen to it. And knowing he's a fkwit is kinda putting me off listening to anything from his back catalog and the other groups he's involved with.

I think there's a classic in this genre, summed up by, "it's Johnny Marr I feel sorry for".

Shaking Stevens.

Bear with me.

My late BiL was a huge fan when he was a kid. Fast forward to the mid 90s and he's playing the Brentwood Centre. So the OH, BiL and his OH all go along. I thought it would be a bit naff but in fairness - it was a bloody good gig - great fun!

Afterwards, we head to the stage door (which is actually, normally the entrance to the squash courts - proper music venue!!) so my BiL might get a few LPs signed. About 20 others there as well. Two hours pass and the 20 has become 7. Why we waited as long as we did I'll never know.

Eventually, a black Range Rover reverses up. Shakey comes out, doesn't so much wave, gets in the car and off it goes. Only it doesn't because the security guard, with whom everyone has become quite pally with, doesn't click his remote thingy to open the barrier and instead walks to the driver's window and utters something. Car reverses up, window comes down and Shakey - looking a little peeved offers to sign autographs for the four fans who'd been waiting with their various mates and spouses. As he does so, he says "you know you guys don't own me don't you?". A rather large fella, the husband of one of the fans pointed out in eloquent Anglo Saxon Essex that having just spent £60 to watch him, actually, we do!" The woman then threw her signed album in through the window.

tt!

We did this recently didn't we, albeit skewed towards the nonces and worse end of the scale.

In the moron category is Ian Brown. I know weed can make you paranoid, but wow - another full on tin foil anti-vaxxer

Big fan of both The Smiths and The Stone Roses checking in here ..... (sigh)

I didn't expect Ian Brown to be an intellectual genius but honestly, sometimes I think him and Morrissey are so far adrift that they just say things for the attention.

I presume we’re not mentioning the K word because it’s too obvious?

I'm a big Metallica fan and have read loads of stuff about them and I don't like some of it but, yeah, why James Hetfield? Lars.....

Rita Ora.

Good pop voice and stage presence.

Could appear to be an immoral, intelligence vacuum

Rita Ora apologises for second breach of Covid lockdown restrictions
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-5521...

The message to her fans would seem to be "you don't have to bother with Coronavirus restrictions, because I don't"
Furthermore it might appear that "I simply pay my way out of regulations":

I’ve never been too bothered if the artist is a fkwit tbh, it’s more about if I like the music.

I have no doubt there are utter cretins and morons in the music industry, just as there are in all walks of life.

Not the same thing but...

I read a review of an album I liked and the reviewer referenced their favourite vocal performance - an album called Hell Destroyer by a Power Metal band I'd never heard of called Cage:

Listen to the first song, instantly put the album on rotation. Listen a lot more and then one day I twig on the song "Christ Hammer" that I've been cranking Christian Metal. Not sure how to feel now as most of the music I listen too supports the other side. biggrin

But it's pretty damn fine so it'll stay! music
