Some good news on an otherwise doom & gloom forum... after Le mans I went down to Gibraltar via Bordeaux & Madrid

Car drove like a dream for every mile & received so much attention it was incredible! (I guess the Le Mans stickers helped)

My only real problem was having the rear screen launch into orbit whilst blowing the pants of a 911 between Valencia & Barcelona last Sunday - and YES the roof was on & the windows were up as I had the A/C on in 39 degree heat! - I guess this should be covered on warranty as it shouldn't have happened?

So, the last 2 days I had no rear screen & had to cut my trip short, got caught in electrical storms round Lyon & not one drop of water got in!

I'll post some pictures soon!

Sounds like excellent adventure.........hopefully of to South of France in mine soon.......looking forward to your pics.......any idea why the screen came out ? I've probably been 30 or so miles an hour over the National Limit (private roads of course !) with the roof of and screen in for miles and had no probs and likewise with the windows down, seems a bit strange for it to just go !!!

The rear screen blowing off happened to a Tuscan on the Eurohoon trip last september (Similar conditions). The good news is the new replacement screen is slightly bigger and so it shouldn't happen again. Don't think the screen was replaced FOC though.

It's good to hear news of people enjoying their cars. I certainly do every day and have managed to do 10k miles this year so far

My screen WAS the slightly bigger improved version!! And I was travelling at a good speed at the time! In the past I had also done 80's with the roof off with no problem - but this time it just happened!!

hhmmm, be interested to know why this happened with the larger screen, did a clip fail and the screws get ripped out the GRP?

Are you sure you had it firmly seated?

I still have the original screen in mine(2000) and have done 180mph+ with no issues. I always make sure it is a firmly seated as possible, it is easy to do up the clips with it only slightly in.

cheers

what do you think! I didn't post this to have my sanity questioned... My company are currently prototyping custom made covers for the screens & panels, so I know as much about their sizes & how to fit them as anyone... My guess is that the high temperature softened it first? Didn't I hear that the factory had used a heat gun to re-shape one & make it a better fit for someone on here recently?

anyway, the post was celebrating a victory for the Tuscan!!

Screen was a very tight fit... having spent a week touring with drum4it I can vouch for the fact that it was securely fixed.

I look forward to seeing the photos - when you get a free day you must both come over for a curry & a bottle of Rioja!!

Was only asking. Good luck with getting a new one from the factory!! Surely they must give you a free one with a big apology? I assume it hit nothing behind you?

cheers

PS. Maybe drill a hole in the next one and tie a bit of string through it and attach it to your big toe

I will give it a try next time I have a long trip roof on in the sunshine, as it sounds like the heat must make the screen soft!

Or give the string to your bird to hold haha

Yep, I guess so, plus I was right by the coast - strong winds & doing 150+ at the time... still, I beat the Porker

It was probably me commenting on the TVR factory getting screens to fit by taking a heat gun to them - they did that when I got a new screen.

I am only amazed that a rear window could melt in a hot climate ahead of other parts of the car falling apart i.e. everything that is glued! Fortunately the UK climate should not cause too many instances of this particular occurance.
