Went out in Super Sasha (the previous 981s was Sasha) for the weekly spin with my better half on Sunday - just a quick 20 mile round trip to relax, enjoy the rare sun and smile at the utterly gorgeous sounds she makes (the car, not the better half) and on a very heavily used 60 mph section of the A390, hit a 3’ wide 2” deep pot hole that would wipe out a motor cyclist. It was one of those delamination pot holes where you go off the leading edge only to hit the cliff edge trailing edge. I checked the steering under acceleration and braking - all seemed fine. Stopped after 8 miles at a garden centre. My wife went into get some food for the insatiable birds and I looked at the wheels, not expecting anything at all. Front passenger had big bulge - only 3000 miles :-(

Booked car into Reading to get it replaced and have other tyres, wheels and suspension checked. All seems fine but will get a 4 wheel alignment done.

Anyway - £270 for one tyre, £80 more than favourite normal tyre place but as I got car from there, at least if there was any wheel damage, no question as to who would pay.

These P-Zero’s do seem very delicate.

Hampshire CC should be covering. Apparently they thought the hole was already fixed as part of an emergency 2 hour fix and several others had already made claims. Clearly it wasn’t fixed.

At Reading today - great service thankfully - Taycan Turbo S in racing colours (I drove the Turbo at the experience event and boy, was it an experience), GTS4 in Python Green, GT4 718 in yellow, GT4 981 in red, GT3RS with nice picnic table in green. One I wouldn’t have chosen was a Crayon 718 with Crayon wheels and black door handles - I love it that people try these different things and have different ideas of beautiful.

Shame about the tyre, but more importantly, is that alloy alright? It looks flattened along the impacted edge.

All wheels fine. That is the profile of those wheels - all good. Angle in the picture looks a bit off as I’m point the camera into the gap between the wheel and the tyre. Paul

Your wheel may have got away without damage as impact was close to a spoke rather than in between two, so less prone to get bent.

Don't forget the council may be liable for repair charges. "If" the council are already aware of pothole and not addressed it you can claim . Most councils have a dedicated roads dept that can help with info, when I claimed all I needed was a pic of the pothole being measured ( it had to exceed a certain depth/size , can't remember exactly ), pic of damage ,and copy of invoices...good luck

20”s are a horrible nightmare. They look awesome but practically on UK ste roads I really wish I had gone for the smaller wheels.

Yes, would appear I was on the lucky side - all wheels are still mint - no scuffs, no chips, no distortions. Also, suspension still true (inc steering wheel).

Council have already had claims for same hole which they thought (incorrectly) had been emergency repaired. I'm sure I'll get the money back.

I had 20s on my 981s for 6 years without any issues. Challenge we've got is the state of the roads. You lose concentration for a minute, even on what should be a clean dual carriage way and BANG. There goes somewhere between £300 and £2000 depending on how unlucky you are. Not great.

My car failed its MOT on a very similar bulge on the inside of one of my rear tyres. I had no idea it was even there until the test. At oeast it was the only ting the car failed don and there were no advisories.

Treated the car to a pair of Good Year Eagle F1's from Blackcircles at a cost of £300, which wasn't that bad considering they're 265/30/19.

My Mini has gone through 3 tyres (run flat so firm, inflexible sidewalls) since September because of potholes. Drives me nuts.

Ouch. I am paranoid about potholes, so much so that I seem to concentrate more on looking for them immediately in front of me rather than the road ahead. At least it was just a tyre but oh so frustrating.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S have a stiffer sidewall and work better on the 20's.

Good to hear, like you say, just a quick of the photo angle then!
