Has anyone here had a workplace charger installed? Due to parking assignment (i.e. none at the home car park), it would be better for me to get a charger at my business unit than at home. I just found this page:

https://pod-point.com/guides/business/workplace-ch...

Does this fully sum up the process/experience? Any extra advice/costs/etc?

Cross-posted from the EV forum - hope that's OK.

Have a chat with Chris at CJB Energy, he does a lot of workplace/car park EV charge points and would be happy to point you in the right direction I'm sure, really nice guy. Chris Barnes. CJB Energy : 07957 000562

I got two quotes from installers via the grant scheme. They came in ridiculously expensive even with the £500 grant.

Ended up calling a local electrician who installed one for roughly the half the price of the quotes without a grant

Thanks folks. Maybe the grant is a licence for some installers to print money.

I do have an electrician who did the original work on the unit. I will give him a call and see if he's got any know-how on this.

I took advantage of the pod point and grant formula for my 7kw charger at home. It charges my Tesla at 25mph as opposed to 7mph on the 3 pin plug.

I then installed 3 of the 3 phase chargers at work to charge 3 Tesla’s and the cost was pretty much the same. These 22kw chargers charge at 61mph, still well below the 250mph?? Of the super chargers but very good nonetheless.

So in summary, pod point is a good company and their service and product is welcome but I still think there’s a bit of smoke and mirrors going on in the pricing structure.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. The charging thing seems to be harder than choosing the car!

Make sure you have a big enough mains power supply before you go to far. We need to upgrade our connection from the grid before we can offer a row of decent chargers.

Some parts of the urban area also have no surplus/additional capacity if your incoming supply is inadequate & this is unfortunately something can not be fixed!

^ I should be OK, as this would be for a 'light industrial' unit with three-phase and the only electricity-intensive thing I currently run is the kettle. smile

No chance of cheap electricity via a smart meter, though, as far as I can see.
