A couple of days ago the parking sensors on my 2019 520 stopped working. At first I hoped it was just dirt or snow on the sensors but now the roads are dry and I’ve given them a wipe but the fault remains. Car is obviously new enough to be under warranty, but to complicate things I reversed into a bollard just before Christmas and had to get an insurance repair. That was a month ago and everything worked perfectly up until Monday. So if I take it into the BMW garage as a warranty claim and it’s something wrong at the rear then they’ll say it’s accident damage or caused by the repairer. If I take it back to the repair centre and the problem isn’t of their making then that’ll cost me too.

Any suggestions on who I go to first?

Go the warranty route, & only tell them the sensors don't work. Treat the recent damage repair as unrelated - unless BMW eventually tell you it is. BMW are better able to interrogate the onboard systems than any bodyshop.

When I had a new 51 plate 330 Ci the parking sensors packed up within warranty.

I took it to my local dealer who needed two goes at fixing it. When I complained that the first failed fix wasn't good enough the service receptionist haughtily replied "well what did you do before you had parking sensors?". A fair point, but hardly the point, given that my then new and expensive to me toy was not fully working.

I've since got an M3 where the rear PDC has stopped working and a family Honda runabout where the same applies. I have just come to the conclusion that the sensors are rubbish quality and pack up too soon.

Ergo your dealer is likely to have seen plenty similar cases to get it in there for warranty.

I just don't bother repairing it on my out of warranty cars now, and look over my shoulder, but that's hardly the point.

First a few questions.
1. Does the screen on the iDrive change when the parking sensors should be on?
2. What happens if you press the big P button on the centre console?
