Toyo Proxes T1R Pressures anybody?

Hi,had T1R's fitted all round,15 fronts 16 rears, 350 miles ago,cant seem to get tyre pressures right,the car seems to "wobble" for want of a better word in high speed corners......V.off putting.Used 24 front 26 rear as per other posts..Increased to 25 and 26 to test.Happy to wait untill 500 miles done to see if any improvement,any advice out there?????????????

I've T1Rs put on the rears recently. TVR Power recommends 24psi, and I've found this more lively than it was before, considering reducing them to 22/23 psi.

24/26 is where most people end up.

With only 350 miles on these tyres I would question whether they have had time to burn off the mould slip agent yet. Toyo's are well known for taking a lot of miles to bed in. The 'slip' agent will give you poor lateral grip so your symptoms do suggest this.

Just fitted the T1R's to the rear of my 400. They have a noticably softer sidewall than the S03's. They were fitted at 36 psi and the ride was skittish to say the least. I reduced them to 24 to begin with but found the rear would wallow about quite a bit. I'm now running them at 27 psi which seems to be working well

Found exactly the same on fitting GY F1's to the rear of my V8S, compared to the SO3's on the front the sidewalls are like jelly . I'm currently running 28psi having tried 24/22/26.
When first fitted I thought the car had something seriously wrong with it and pulled over to check all the wheel nuts were fitted .
All in all not impressed so far . Sounds like the Toyos are not much better.
I know shnozz really didn't get on with them on his Chim, so much so it probably was part of his reason for trading it for an Elise .

Thanks for the reassuring replies.Will be running up to Silverstone for the GP,maybe they will "bed in" on my return journey.Will try higher pressures,I assume to offset the increased flexablity in the sidewalls.Is there a reason for Toyo designing with softer sidewalls????????

It's not neccessarily Toyo designing tyres with softer sidewalls - it's more like Bridgestone designing tyres with stiffer sidewalls than everyone else.

I am very impressed with the Toyo's, but you need to find the right pressure first (as you would with any tyre).

they have far more grip than the S03's i replaced - in both wet and dry. So much so that the S03's on my front now seem to want to break away first. Unfortunately they still have loads of tread, so don't really want to replace them too.

Wow,iv'e found the F1's way better than the S03's,may be alot depends on the profile your running?
Have been on 23psi fr 25 r for nearly a year now.

The Brigestones are crap IMO.
Got Toyo's (T1S) and they are fab in comparison although do take 500 miles or so to "bed in".
Pressures - 23 front 25 rear and this seems to suit.

I got T1-R's recently at the rear. In the beginning they were horrible; bedded them in (1500 miles) and lowered the pressure to 21 psi, a lot better now, although I still felt more confident with the T1-S's.

Good idea but no actually. Toyo UK tells me that too much heat can drive the slip agent further in.

JSR, my fronts are v thin (SO2 all round), have you found mixing them with TR1's ok? My local tyre fitter was scratching his head a lot at the prospect of this.

steve1c, S03 fronts with T1R rears work absolutely fine in the dry. In the wet, i get the impression the fronts will run out of grip first. You can also tell the Toyo is a much more modern tyre. I do have loads of tread left though.

Thanks for this JSR, got a few hudred left in the rears, might just light them up and get the whole lot done!
