BMW i3 iDrive screen fault
Discussion
Hi, I've a 2016 BMW i3 range extender which has recently developed a fault with the iDrive central screen. A 10p size black circle has appeared on the screen in recent weeks and although all the functions still work, it's just this area is completely black and I'm assuming it is merely a screen issue.
I'm concerned it's the start of more problems or will spread and cover the whole screen. The screen is the the intermediate size (if I can describe it like that) i.e. it's not as small as first seen on i3s but it's not the full screen used on later (and was an option) cars. Everything else on the car has been trouble free. I'm aware some people have replaced their screens for the newer, bigger versions with the appropriate re-programming.
Has anyone experienced similar problems and have a fix they can suggest? I suspect BMW will suggest a new screen and considerable cost. Are there any independent specialists out there who could repair/replace?
Any advice gratefully received.

For your car, there are 2 screens available...
6.5" - part number 65509306742
10.25" - part number 65509306743 (for pro nav equipped cars, option 609)
The smaller one, 65509306742, is readily available on your favourite online auction site for £250 - £300. Note search for 9306742 and you get more results.
The new price seems disproportionately expensive, like £2000+.
No coding required for a like-for-like swap, and it's very DIY-friendly.
