Legacy left for me in a will at my old address

Hopefully this is the right forum for this question, probably a very simple question but this is the first time I have received anything from a will and a Google search provided nothing. A relative I have not seen since I was a child passed away back in 2019 and yesterday a letter from the firm looking after the estate arrived at my parents house stating a legacy from the will was left to me. They require certified copies of 1 proof of ID and 1 proof of address.

Problem is I have not lived at that address for over 8 years now and have all the paperwork they would need a copy of (utility bill, bank statement, electoral roll etc) is all for my current address but the paperwork they have sent me to fill out is pre filled out with my old address.

I assume this is fairly common so do they just need my ID and current address as proof or will I need to dig out some really old paperwork?

So far no answer by phoning the person handling the estate, I will drop them an email but they are closed until Monday and was wondering if there is a standard answer to this or if it varies from firm to firm? as I could get the ball rolling this weekend wit the proof required or perhaps I should just wait until I hear from them

They don't need proof of your address at your parent's, they just need proof of address.

Send them what they have asked for, they may come back asking for more, but tackle that when they ask.

They cannot deprive you of your inheritance just because you are not living at an old address.

Are the solicitors close enough to visit in person?

If you can go in person with a sheaf of documents it will save you the cost of getting copies certified and everything can be sorted in one go (hopefully)

Thanks all, sadly they are about 3 hour drive away but I have found some old paperwork with the old address on (that they sent it to).

Will monitor this and may have to contact them on Monday

If it's a normal Money Laundering ID check they will want your current address, it may be worth dropping them a note with a copy of your previous address proof.

If you get a credit report, it will probably show your old address in the linked addresses section. I have some addresses going back to 2005 in my credit report.

Regardless, the solicitors involved have managed to find you anyway, so chances are they just want you to prove who you are.
