Guys, any comments appreciated; got out of an RS4, now can't decide on whether to go for the following 996C4S or a newer std 997 for similar money.

Would attach a pic, but cant see the option to add foto?

2003 - 03 Polar Silver with Metropole Blue Leather
Sports Exhaust, BOSE sound upgrade, Aluminium Pack, Aluminium Instrument,
Steel Entry Guards.
car has just under 3,000 miles on the clock.

Main concerns are 1. the colour for resale....will silver become the new white - am I better waiting for a darker colour? 2. No PCM 4. No PDC

Or do I go for a ex demo 997 that has been offfered to me for very similar money.

I love the looks of the C4S, but primary concern is the colour knocking it as most cars on the road are silver!

Thanks in advance.

The reason most are silver is because:

a) It's a timeless colour
b) It doesn't age
c) Better resale
d) All those peope can't be wrong

Tricky decision. You don't mention price which obviously makes a difference. I agree with Silver993TT about the colour, but I would say that I've got a silver 997. C4S does love lovely, and it apparently drives like a dream. I can only offer an opinion based on the 997C2S, but at the end of the day I'd buy the newer model.

I think most people would make the same choice, hence C4S(996) values are going down the toilet.

Same view here, plus I reckon the C4S is looseing £££ quicker than most as its the last of the line 996 and just cannot compete with 997 on price so the newer ones 03/04 etc are dropping harder...

Not scaremongery, just observations on current porca pricing....

Price is low 50s for the 4s and just under 60k for the 997. 997 is 2.5kmiles and arctic silver, blue leather; full spec.

4S sounds a bargain. 997 sounds lovely.

You'll find a 2000/1 996TT for low £50k's now - better car than both! Unless you just want a newer car.

Tis me! How the devil are you? I miss that car soo much; 450+bhp is great fun! GT3? What happened to the new M5? I read that you got rid of the SL55 for a 4.8is.

Have to get a Porker out of the system; Thought about a Cobalt Blue 4S, not sure its a bit too Premiership footbal player colour!

GT3 nice.. is it the RS?

Got rid of the SL55 for an M3 CSL then had the 4.8is but decided a wanted a fun car again. The GT3 is a Club Sport decided the RS was a bit over the top for road use. Nearly got a 996TT in Cobalt Blue really like that colour and would look great on a 4S.

Ian

Sold my RS4 about 4 weeks ago and have been searching for the right C4S ever since.
PCM is a very desirable if not essential option on the C4S.
Arctic silver,Seal grey and Basalt black are the most popular and all suit the car very well.
Try to get one with the PSE(porsche sports exhaust
) fitted....the sound is awesome,it can also be retro fitted at an OPC for around £1700.

2003/2004 prices are slipping at the moment due to the prices of the 997.
You should be able to buy a 2003 C4S for no more than £50k
Cheers

Thanks for the info guys. Am seeing it tomrrow; was leaning towards a 4S; the car, despite not having PCM seems a reasonable spec. What I like about it is its £52k and has only done 2600miles!!!!!!! Plus it does have the sports exhaust......Qis there such a difference in the sound between a std and sports?

Driven a couple of C4S,s....the sports exhaust makes a glorious noise...well worth the expense of having it fitted IMHO

Frank,
If you're still looking for a C4S. PM me and I'll give you the details of the guy I'm dealing with. Has access to Porsche approved stock without the hideous margins by the OPC.

Interseting how so mny RS owners have moved to this brand.....

surely you are having a laugh? 996 prices are heading one way and fast

I would actually get a 997S over a 996 4S if they were similar prices but I don't call 10k difference that similar

looking for a 4S but thinking better off with the full-flavour TT to avoid the inevitable RMS problems so you have mail Iain

polar would put me off but not as much as metropole leather

Having driven both for me the 997 is on another level in terms of build quality alone. It Drives better handles better more power etc... the list could be endless. No hard choice really the 997 the better buy.

Adam,

Each to their own LOL. I got the 4S in the end, Polar Silver, Metropole Leather! Easy to keep clean! But now want a TT so 4S is going to go

997 2S s coming in at around 58k at the mo in the trade.

absolutely sir. Just bored of silver cars (though polar nicer than arctic) and although the blue tint in polar goes with metropole, just never liked blue leather.

still lovely car though
