Looking at this tomorrow, for sale at www.theelitecarriageco.co.uk in Salisbury. Anyone know the car? Last serviced at David Hendry, all previous at TVR Centre. Sales guy not sure if it's had major engine work or not.

BTW, have read the Speed 6 threads, so know what you V8 boys think already!

They had this car in stock when I first started looking for a Cerb well over a year ago. I didn't go and view, because I specifically wanted a 4.5 , but it's been up an awful long time, and the price has stayed the same throughout. If nothing else, this should be a good bargaining point but it does make you wonder why it's been there for so long.

The problem with the SP6 is the oil system. Any foreign objects that cause the oil flow to be restricted will destroy the engine.

If your really interested, I'd ask them to put the car on a ramp and remove all the oil drain plugs and magnetic particle catches - check for metal fragments (I think there is two oil plugs in the sump cover). I'd also check the filter in the oil tank for the oil return. Often becomes clogged or someone sticks a screwdriver through it.

Finally take out a £58 AA warranty for 3 x £500 parts and labour claims.

Oh, if it been on sale for a year, the clutch slave seals could have dried out and might need replacing - about £800.

I bought my S6 (99T 17k miles) 15 months ago for 3 grand more then that car is up for from a TVR dealer with a years warranty and 6000m service/MOT included so would suggest that you should be getting some discount on their asking price.

I'll not give you a S6 lecture (there's enough been said on these forums) but would suggest buying eith your eyes open (i.e. that you may need to invest serious cash as per any Cerb IMO) and heed the advice above.

It's a great engine and the performance is right up there with the standard 4.2s and some 4.5s too.

I found that the handling/road holding of my car improved dramatically by replacing the standard dampers (which are a bit softer than the V8s) so you may want to think about that too.

Also you'll gain Nervous as a new best friend - in which case you ought to ask for even more money off!!!

Is having Nervous as a best friend a good thing?

What do people think about the colour? I've always been a bit wary of gold cars, but I think it suits the Cerb shape really well. If however it's considered a bit of a naff colour for a Cerb this may explain why these guys have had on their lot for a year +.

You arent going to find much support here for choice of engine or colour. But you wont find much support for the purchase of any cerb elsewhere in pistonheads. So if it floats your boat and you are prepared for an up and down relationship, big bills and a car that is difficult to sell on then go for it.

I used to have a speed six cerb in exactly the same spec and its gorgeous. If I could find a 4.5 in the same spec I would be over the moon. I had the speed six and it was fine but, before you make the decision ensure you ahve driven the V8's as well. I am back in the market now and only looking at 4.5's.

My car was fine but had 2 rebuilds prior to me buying it at 14k, I havent heard anything about the car since i sold it. I would probably still own it today if I hadnt moved to Bristol and parking had become an issue.

I bought my old Chim from them around 5yrs ago, it was a simular scenrio the car had been there around 6/7 months, i had noticed it when i was first looking for a Chim it was a excellent colour comp, but the price was over my budget They then lowered the price by £1k in the sale so i went to have a look even though it was possibily still out of my budget, to cut a long story short i got a very good deal on the car and a decent px for my Supra, they did an additional oil and filter change, new battery and repaired the stitching in the roof,plus a short warranty(which i never had to use) I delt with Pete Farlmer who is the owner and a Tiv fan, so i can`t comment on the car you are after but can vouch for the dealer

Just back from seeing the car.

Colours actually work really well, so tick in that box. Faults noticed:
-pull to left under heavy braking
-brake judder
-grumbling/grinding noise on overrun at higher revs - is this just the exhaust, or could it be something in the drivetrain?
-rev counter surges about all over the place under heavy throttle
-drivers door inetrior release inop.
-wire running from the a pillar on passenge side into the door as if something's been re-wired in a hurry

Was impressed with the manners of the car in traffic, but not wishing to start that old debate...
